Default Project Cheap Canadian Jeep

Hello all!!
My wife and I are both really new to the Jeep world. Two weeks ago we picked up a 1992 XJ 4.0L auto with 386,000km.

The pro's of the Jeep
little rust on the body
drivetrain is in really good shape for it km.
it was very cheep!

The cons of the jeep
the PO's hacked wiring in everywhere
coolant leaks
electrical nightmares
half primed
damaged intoror trim/ sagging headliner.

The plans for the jeep is to first get it to DD condition, once that is reached it will be upgraded one thing at a time!

4.5-5 inch lift
31-35" tires
better bumpers
body armor/ flairs
stoker kit
better axles
bullet proof trans/ transfer case

well wish us luck on our journey!! .

Well this thing had more Demons than expected, between Alarms and coolant leaks! 3 separate coolant that showed up one after another, then well that blasted Alarm issues.... between the aftermarket crap that was causing battery draws to the factory alarm failing causing the usual issues. now all fixed.

Full tune up has been done, new clutch fan, front brakes, fluid flushes, steering stabilizer,

I haven't really looked at shipping yet but i know it will not be too cheep, that's why i plan on only doing large orders at a time. i know a few sources that hopefully get me deals.

With current exhange rate its bonkers and not worth it. You need to find a cross border shipping company like DYK Post to save anything or scour your local ads.

I just picked up a set of JKS disconnects for my ZJ for $50 BNIB

from a fellow Canadian.

Try 4wheelparts.com they ship directly from Canada
and north shore offroad in Vancouver

prices are reasonable for Canada, still nowhere as cheap as US.

Well it always seems like 3 steps forward two back, thought i had the wobble figured out but i guess not . I knew that i was gonna replace the stock suspension but i guess i will have to start now.. onto today's project upper and lower control arms, and front sway bar links, as well as balance the ****ty tires that are on it now. well 3 out of 4 things went well. 3 out of 4 bolts on the upper control arms are seized and the bushings on the axle are shot. if i didn't have to have the jeep on the road for this weekend i would have cut the bolts a propped out the bushings on the axle and ordered parts.

This weekend was the first real test of the Jeep since I bought it 4 weeks ago, never highway tested after last round of repairs. A 550km camping trip was its test, mountain roads highway, dirt roads and a grass farmers field. Well i am impressed, it drove well through the highway both ways 100km/h or 60mph ish. The mountain roads/highway felt like nothing, the dirt roads were like a treat for it!!! no shaking, vibrations, engine and trans stayed cool.
Now to replace the busted radio and speakers so i have better tunes!

Some weeks seem to be good others not so, this week the Speedo started bouncing after 80kmh, gets worse the faster i go. The jeep has been struggling to start, slow crank and sometimes not starting.

Well got the starter replaced today and what a difference between the old one and new one. man the engine spins up fast!. The wires for the speed sensor were touching the exhaust, re routed the wires and hope that have fixed the issues.

Well i think i got the speedo fixed.. well at least for now. found a set of decent used rims and tires lt235/75r15 and popped them on, they look evil and make the jeep look more like the zombie hunting jeep i am going for. but man are they loud, they are cupped and worn a little uneven but that's alright for me. i am loving this jeep more and more every day!!! I ended up with a parts jeep so now to make my jeep look better inside and out.

The upps and downs of DDing a 26 year old jeep. Blew another headlight switch, blew on of my tires (had to put stockers back on), have play in my ball joints now and intermittent running issues. Well on a good note just got some Nokian Nordman 7 studded tires.

i bought a 92 in 99. still have it, but it's a camp jeep now. still street legal, but just barely. 4" lift, welded rear, 12.50 x 33 x 10" shoes, 12,000 lb winch and pipe bumpers. i cut the wheel wells out and made 1/8" x 6" flat bar fender flares that you can stand on. 17 years on this lease and i've never stuck it. got it high centered on a tree trunk once though. if i out live the 4.0, i'm going diesel. enjoy your jeep!
