We will see. In the past week, I think I have dumped $1200 in this thing. Pretty sure the my 5k limit is well passed up by now. I really dont want to know. So ya, I think the locker will wait. I can do that myself at any time anyways.

Haha I am almost done with XJ version 1 (restoration and 4wd conversion)! (version 2 is going to be all about suspension) You have a lot of catching up to do! If all goes as planned, the first real off road adventure is going to be this weekend. Then I can go back to working on the Bug. That will be your time to catch up.

lol, that's good to here. Do you have a build thread for the big on a VW forum? If so, PM me the link. Would like to follow. I'm not sure I will ever catch up. We will see. Ha
Ya I got multiple threads going on it. Sadly, the one over on Volksrods never really caught on. So its not really on an VW specific forum. No need to PM it over. If anyone else wants to see it, go here. Or just type in "1970 mid engine bug" on a search field and it will pop up most of the threads on the first page of results.
It seems like every day I get a little good news and a little bad news about the Jeep. So lets start with the bad. They guy I had lined up to do the gear swap now cant do it until late next week. And that sucks cause I want to take the Jeep out and play this weekend. So its either pay a shop to do it, or attempt to do it myself.
Good news. The broken bolts in the front yoke came out super easy. Other good news, my new t-case shifter linkage is here. Looks like a very nice product. We will see how it works.

If it doesn't work out, can you go complain to them for me?
In other news, I have decided to tackle the gear swap in the rear. I have another buddy who says it should be easy. So I will be going to his house on Saturday to see what kind of madness we can make. Now since I am not forking out any $$$ to do the install, I am trying to get an Aussie here by Friday. No luck so far. Went to the Jeep place next to my work and they refuse to carry or install any kind of lunchbox locker. Says they are the worst thing ever and guaranteed to break. So it looks like I will be keeping the open diff for a little while.

yes I can lol.
thats odd that the Jeep place would say that. I know there are heaps of happy forum users with them. In fact, I plan on getting lunch box lockers in mine. I wonder if our local Jeep/off-road store will give the same shtick.

The only people I have heard complain about them are the ones who get the extra cheap lockers. Everyone else seems to love the Aussie. If I can get one here by Friday, I will. If not, I will just wait until I throw the Truetrac in the front and do the rear locker at the same time.

More progress! New t-case shifter linkage is in. Glad i serviced the front diff instead of assuming it had fluid. I drained it and a 1/4 quart came out. I also fired it up for the first time since the rear main and pan gasket swap. No leaks so far. Going to take it on a test drive shortly. Havent aligned it yet so wish me luck.
Test drive was pretty much a fail. Did not get all the air out of the cooling system. Was cruising at 210 just fine, then instantly shot up to 260. Made it about 2 miles. So its back at home bleeding out some more air. Has sucked in about a half gallon so far.
