Alright. So here is what I’ve come up with for my Push Button Ignition.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR PUSH BUTTON IGNITION FOR AN XJ NEWER THAN A RENIX, PM me, and I can definitely help you out.

This write-up doesn’t require any complete rewiring, or adding any fuses. It utilizes what’s already there in your jeeps wiring harness, just adding a custom switch, and a custom starter button.

What you will need:
1. 55A switch, or two 30A switches
2. Any type of button that you can wire to
3. Some extra wire to extend your existing wires
4. Simple wire connectors, or soldering stuff
5. Wire adapters for screw type ends, and slide on ones

First off, you’ll want to start with these wires pictured below. They come down off the right hand side of the steering column from the top. Find them and snip them and leave yourself enough length to work with. The YELLOW wire is the engine ignition system. The BROWN wire is the inside accessories (cabin lights, stereo, that annoying buzzer… etc.) RED is power. GREEN is the wire to the starter motor. And the black with white tracer and purple wire go to the door windows and locks, and the rear hatch wiper and washer sprayer. The ORANGE wire does something too… but I didn’t find anything that was mandatory that I needed it for. My lights turn on, my horn honks, and my jeep runs. So I’m satisfied J That grey with a red tracer… it has power to it. But I’m not sure what it is. … I just left it out. But everything still works! So I see no problems.

Next, take the YELLOW, BROWN, ORANGE, BLACK/WHITE, AND PURPLE wire, and tie them all into one wire. This might be tricky. But I did it, so you can too. Attach a connector to the end, so you can hook it up to your power switch. Next, take the power wire, and split it so you have two lead coming off of it. On one lead, it will go to the switch. The other, to the starter motor button.

Now you need a switch. I suggest a 55A switch, or maybe two different 30A switches, and you could split the power again, and also spread all the accessory wires out evenly. Your choice. The switch I did use at first was a 25A and it melted after about a month of use. Now I run a 55A.

You’ll want to connect all your accessory wires to one end of the switch, and one of the power leads to the other end.

I mounted the switch here:

Now that your switch is installed, I suggest turning the switch to the ON position, and testing everything. See if you have power to all that you did before. If it works, continue! If not, figure out what wire you missed

Now for the starter motor button. I just got this little button I had in the drawer at home. It’s rated at 3A… starter motors run a lot more than that… but’s it’s survived thus far. It’ll be okay.

Attach the other power lead coming from your RED wire to one side of the button, and the GREEN wire to the other end. You should have something like this:

Now that that’s done, you can also mount it up! I put mine here:

And now you can put your dash all back together and see how it works it should be slick as snot! You CAN add a kill switch somewhere hidden on either power wire, to the switch or the starter motor, to keep theft from taking your JEEP! If you don’t take apart your steering wheel and remove your lock plate, then you will have to keep a key in the ignition in the ON position, just to keep your steering wheel free moving. But all in all, this is what I’ve got. It may be crude, but it worked for me!

That swap was really easy, and i recommend it to anyone who wants a really strong axle that wants to keep a stock width.

Now on to more cooool stuff...

We decided this rock would be a good idea to pose for some great poser pictures...

Took out the quick disco's... and this thing flexed til the tire was hittin up in the fender.

Let's see what else i've done to my jeep that i haven't listed...

1. Changed all U-Joints
2. Changed the fuel pump
3. Also took my doors clean off
4. Added a homebrew CAI
5. Had to adjust the preload on my D30 pinion about 5 times.

Most of the rest i've left alone! Painted a few things and wired a few things for my own convenience.

Today i finally got sick of having no speakers in the front. due to not having doors. so i went through the process of relocating them into the little kick panel on either side under the dash.

they look pretty close to stock i think!!

I also packed some padding behind them, to kinda dampen then, and help them sound a little decent. but overall, way better than before!!

... And so onto the stuff that matters. For those who are wondering about lift and such. I debated. At first i just wanted something around a 6" long arm. and maybe run some 35's. And swap in a Ford 8.8.

Well, i've changed my mind. I figured go big, or go home.

...

I'm going with full widths. A high pinnion Dana 44 front, and a Ford 9'' rear. I will long arm it, and it will be great. Also, I'm doing it on only 3" of lift. oh yeah... one more thing. I'm using 37" tires.

And soo... I searched around on some local classifieds for tires. And after a few weeks, i came across this deal. 6 Goodyear MT/Rs, 37x12.50x17, for $200. yeah!! 2 of them are pretty much new, 2 are about 75% left, and the last 2 are worse and for spares. I decided to load up a trailer on the jeep and drive to pick them up. because it was a couple hours away. and i didn't wanna drive my hog of a truck that far for just tires

I decided also, that i'll never tow with the jeep again!! white knuckle the whole time
