My Latest XJ Build... Soon to become a Chuggy?
5 Attachment(s)
To see a few of my past builds, check out my intro thread HERE
Anyway, I traded in my last XJ towards my new Mustang and lately my son has been asking to go to the beach/ 4 wheeling, so it was time to find a new Jeep. I picked up this 2 weeks ago on Craigslist for 1200 Attachment 366665 cleaned it up a bit while I was waiting for parts to arrive Attachment 366666 Then my parts arrived this week. I got a set of 6.5 springs, but ended up putting on a 4.5 lift instead. I am thinking of cutting the body off this fall and going full tube buggy and I don't want it up too high.. So anyway, 4.5 lift, cut fenders, 35" KM2s.. Getting there.. I wanted to build a bumper like I did on my last XJ (in intro thread) but I hate to waste my time if I would be cutting it off to turn this into a buggy in a few months... ahhhh decisions. Anyway, it's looking a bit better now :) Attachment 366667 Attachment 366668 Attachment 366669 |
Looks good!
I like the KM2s. Got a set in 33x10.5 for myself. |
Nice xj!

Looks like gordon woods??
|
Wow looks great. I'm really thinking about 35's on mine and this is just about what mine would look like

You don't waste any time do ya?
You've had this thing for how long? A month? You should send these picture to the previous owner and ask them to identify it. I'm diggin the grille and bumper like that. Ya think you could incorporate a winch? |

I assume the winch is going on top of the bumper?

The top of the front plate is welded to the flat 1/4" winch mount plate that fills the gap from the tube to the grill. then the 3 tubes in front support the overhang. |
It's be two weeks since he posted. I'd guess it's a full tube buggy on built 60's by now.
Edit: It's been two weeks since you post and we post at the exact same time... |

While not quite done in those photos, the brackets mount along frame rails like the stock ones, along with being tied into the 1/4" plate across the front.

Just welding up some areas that were not completely finished (wanted to get some pics up and was out of time) and just taking it out.. I don't want it to be down for the summer, so it will be fall / winter before I do anything like long arms, coil conversion, axles, etc.. |

The AC in my house went out, got a vacation this month, and 2 birthdays that seem to be taking all my cash right now. All the work I am doing is just small stuff that don't change the look, but I am still working here and there on it. Once the season is over I will go deeper into the XJ Right now I am gathering parts and converting my Roadrunner over to rear disk brakes. :) Attachment 361951 |

I was excited and expected an update. ... and it was just you. :P |
i'm sick of checking this everyday to find nothing new so i decided to sub for two reasons
1) i won't have to check anymore (i'm lazy) 2) hopefully my reply (and any that follow) will be motivational to the OP

lol Seems like he has all the motivation he needs.
In 3 months he's done almost as much to his Jeep as I have to mine in 7 years. and I like his bumper better than mine. |
This thing is crazy, can't wait to see more of it.
|
Well?

Wow, impressive for the amount of time you've had it. I really love the cage, might have to steal the design.

Lol, thanks guys.
No updates right now. I didn't want to do anything major while it's still warm out. So I have been working on the brakes on my Roadrunner pictured above, and a little maintenance on my Truimph (tires, exhaust on order, adjust valves, primary, fluid changes, etc) I did make plans for a wedding in the spring, so there is some planning/money that will need to go into that before the Jeep, so right now i'm just enjoying the Jeep as it is for a bit. Here's my Triumph I was talking about Attachment 357432 |
Nice bike.

Dude this thing is awesome'!
|
we should be friends. all the toys look good.

your rig looks super clean.

Thanks guys.
Still just driving it. Getting a bit chilly some mornings, but still have been taking it out to work or whatever once or twice a week |
I keep forgetting you're just up the road from me.
Had it out on the beach yet? |
