Default My Heep, Project 2back

My mom bought this 1989 jeep XJ in 1995. It was the first car I ever rode in... I was doomed from day one! In late 2005 she rear ended someone stopped. Then she was rear ended. It had sat in my driveway for about 6 years before my grandpa and I found another 1990 XJ that was going to the crusher. So in a day and a half he and I got everything from the rear gate to the grill. We spent all last winter putting it back together and became (off) road worthy in mid spring. I just recently got my license and can't wait to get my build on! The name (2back) refers to the term "Go one step forward and two back." because every time I turn around I have to fix one thing and then two more.

(The wheels on the trailer are the original wheels that were on the jeep. We scored the ones on it now from the other XJ)

Recently when I run the car and maybe start and stop it 12 or so times, it will randomly just sit there and crank. So today, spent 5 hours replacing the smashed gas tank and fuel pump assembly, thinking/hoping that that was the problem.... NOPE! My mom uncle and cousin went on a test drive to a house a little ways away from my uncle's that he wants to buy with property. We looked around there for a while and decided to leave. My Jeep decided otherwise. Eventually my aunt picked us up, we left the Jeep, went back to their place, ate dinner and came back 2 hours later... fired right up fist time, 3 cranks. Hopefully I can just keep throwing money at it until it gets fixed. Story of my life.

Very cool to be bringing it back from the former dormant state. Nice work too. Good family project.

I used those shackles too, the spring end is a little wide but a few washers fix that. Also the end that bolts to the body is too wide and the steel sleeve needs to be ground down a bit for it to fit. Otherwise they're great for the price

Thanks for the info! I just need to find some front spacers. The best i found so far are 2" poly from fat bobs garage. (link) http://4x4.fatbobsgarage.com/jeep-xj...001-p8433.aspx

I go board today and painted my air box, also found a '43 *****'s matchbox that I did some detail work on. Then I searched around in my old toys and found a neon green CJ7. I also am going to need a new starter soon because mine doesn't work sometimes. But all I have to do to get it going is give it a tap with some rebar I found and it stars right up... debating weather its worth the money to fix or not.

Lol, i did the same thing to my airbox.

I also remember having the same cj, if you pop one side of one of the axles out it has decent flex.
