Default My First 4x4, 1990 XJ

In February I got in a Head of collision in which my car at the time was totaled a lady ran a red light as i was pulling through an intersection.
it was a Mustang GT

So i then went on the hunt for a new vehicle what i ended up with is my first 4x4. a 1990 Xj two door with the I6 in it and it had 140xxx miles on it and needed lots of TLC

First thing i did was pull the throttle body off, I cleaned it and all the related sensors to get all the crud off.

the jeep had a stalling issue and after i did this it wasnt a problem any more.

The next things i did where simple fixes

oil change

and vlave cover gasket change

also added a valve cover breather filter, it works great and no more blow by into my air filter.

Now im coming to some new issues

first thing is it came with 4 different tires from the PO so im going to order some treadwright Tires

I cant tell if the wheels are even jeep wheels but, never the less i like them and im going to paint them black. maybe bed line them for ****s and giggles

next i need to get my door hinges fixed,

then i need to fix the bed of the jeep, its not rusted through but there are a few holes some one drilled in it. How would you guys suggest i fix the bed? sand it down and get rid of the rust and weld the holes closed? ive searched a little bit haven't found any really good descriptions on how people have done theres?

i plan to bed line the interior after im finished,

Looking through pictures i found something to add i also added a new starter, the old one i had to hit with a hammer to get to start.

it was so nasty from the valve cover gasket leak

sanding/painting is a good way. or be lazy like me, get rustoleum flat black. turns rust into flat black paint. then bedline. =)

At first glance I thought your Mustang had a body kit. Then noticed it was damage. That sucks.

Nice Jeep though. And you got the right idea for fixing the floor. My experience has found that prep work is key if you wan the bed liner to stick for very long or look good.

well I took the plunge and got new tires for the XJ the treadwrights where back ordered so i go these

31x10.5xR15 Firestone Destination A/t's

what do you guys think? and do any of you have any experience with these tires?

after removing the seats i found some big holes, im going to go to a local JY that allows you to chop metal off cars and get a clean floor pan

any suggestions or points in the right direction are welcome, im here to learn thats why im not posting much

Very nice! I like the all in attitude! I am repainting my 91 Xj and I tell you what, the sanding and prep work really makes you feel good to see it come back to life.

Sand, Prime, paint...

I used a 180 grit on my palm sander for my hood and it looked awesome!

Good luck!

thanks man, before i start with paint i need to fix some of the body panels and door hinge wields.

I also changed the tranny filter today, the old tranny fluid was black all better now except for my one broken bolt

i also have a new oil pump ready to go it, once i get her running good the lift will be short coming what should i go with?
I like the RC 3in lift, but the 4.5 long arm is sooo tempting

any ideas will be much appreciated

Just take your time on the floors and you'll be fine. Like everyone's said, prep is the key. Don't just paint right over it and expect it to last.
My brother's got those tires on his jeep in a 225/75 and loves them.
Nice to see yet another 2 door on here. They seem to be popping up everywhere now!

I really appreciate the advice, the mustang was plug and play. it took no talent or creativity. This jeep is a completely different ball game, only limited by my ideas.(and learning how to wield well) haha
