My dogs own a car!
So a little back story,
Its a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4.0L AW4 4 door. I'll post the build somewhere below. Bought it as a vehicle suitable for my dogs, also as a vehicle with many other purposes. My intentions is a all around go anywhere with the dogs and wife, and for any sort of recreation activity or bug out (ZAV). It has to stay within the daily driving world (highway-able).
-Epic fail on my part for not taking any pictures of it when I first got her from a wide angle, but here is it after some molesting on my part, the Jeep was bone stock when I bought her, but don't worry.. I haven't done much.
(That's not a wash, that's just rain water I promise... lol)
A little break down of goals:
1. To make the jeep as a very versatile camper/mobile headquaters. I'd like to use it for short term camping just as easily as long term camping, so everything has to be modular and ready to be used or put away at any moment. (Solar panels, secondary battery wired to its own accessory panel, power converters to charge AC devices, tools for maintenance, spare parts for because, CB, Scanners, storage for all devices, storage for cargo such as tents and other camping stuff, and many more.)
2. To Jeep! DUH! (3in lift with leaf spring pack, steering stabilzer, track bar, ZJ V8 tierods, ZJ V8 Sway bar, ZJ rear disk brakes, turs, relocate all breather hoses, hood vents, dielectric grease and liquid electrical tape errrvythaaaannnngg under the hood and other misc connections, header and new exhaust, delete all the rust and under coat body, bed line rockers and fenders, winch, bumpers, roof rack, lights, blah blah blah there is a thousands of awesome mods and upgrades that can be done to a jeep!)
3. To tow my first Jeep, which also has a thread on this awesome forum.
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/no...erokee-193743/
I'm a do it yourself'er, I have a slight mechanical background and I'm always trying to learn new things or figure out how things work. That being said, every time I remove/adjust/screw with any part or parts that has a perishable or usable part I will replace it. Anything that gets replace gets upgraded (I like the idea of it being a 1998/2015 Jeep Cherokee). I also want the Jeep to live from this point on, as long as my German Shepherd lives. With the wife very much so on-board with the Jeep thing , it makes this project spotlighted and top priority for us. Meaning it gets decent funding for what we can afford, and she also helps me build it!
Now here is a pic of my dog trying to drive the jeep away!
I Tried to edit it, but I'm not a very good neck bearded-fedora wearing hippie... I mean a photo editing artist technician.
But before any of that fun stuff, we all know the jeep maintenance required after purchasing a new jeep that you know nothing about. I did most everything so far, here is a bunch of pics not really in any order.
Got rid of the white pen stripe, that you'll never see.
Mainly dirty because of me.

Also with all the liquids and filters being swapped out, I figured the brakes will need some TLC. Turns out the drums are really dirty, I can't get the adjusters to do anything. I had one drum lock up a couple times under intense braking pressure and it wanted to turn the jeep over side at city speeds. So here I am starting my brake conversation for rear disk brakes. I pick-n-pulled this out of a 97 ZJ for, some of the soft lines won't be usable, but both backing plates and caliper brackets are good, as well as one caliper.
Tomorrow I'll be installing it on the XJ.
Feel free to post!

Just a little each day, most people wrap the brakes up quickly but my auto part stores didn't have my parts.
I was debating if I should have the threads in or out, in I could be dealing with space issues, and out the bolts are exposed to the elements more. Idk staying in if they fit with hardware.
Going to go pick up a ZJ prop valve and the Drivers soft line and caliper tomorrow at the ole local pick n pull.

Some more progress, took a break for the night after realizing I bought XJ wheel studs and not the ZJ's. XJ wheel studs are not long enough for the rotor and wheel.
Can we play ball?
Can we go for a ride?
Axle shaft in.
All is left:
Hard brake lines in the rear, 3 foot and 1 foot worth of lines. (drivers and passenger side)
Wheel studs replaced.
Rotors hung.
Pads and caliper install.
Prop valve.
Diff cover re-installed with fluid.
Bleed brakes.

After some brain storming, lots of chin rubbing, researching, and experiencing; I come to realize this vehicle will need a few things for it to be a outstanding expedition vehicle.
In my opinion I'll need these to bring my vehicle up to a long treks and expeditions.
1: 2-4" lift (Rusty's has an "advance 3.5 inch lift" it looks promising)
2: 31x10.5x15 tars 5 tires, New wheel with offset
3: Air lockers (Debating on if the ole 8.25 and D30 can handle it, or if I should go bigger)
4: Recovery points front and back (Bumpers and/or front and rear hitch)
5: Recovery tools (winch with accessories, farm jack, shovels, picks, axe, sand/mud rails, extra fuel, and spare parts.)
I'll be focusing on completing these more then other parts of the jeep, but here is an update I compiled over a period of time. Was without a computer, and doing everything on the mobile app is a pain for me. So I just collected progress in pictures and here it is.
Don't mind the worn out leafs, they are coming out soon.
Picked up a roof rack locally from craigslist, along with a 99+intake. The rack is just someones custom fab rack, I'll end up getting rid of this one with the lights and all. I plan to build my own, I have an idea to keep the rack low profile, and still carry recovery tools, LED light bar, and have a place to pop up the solar panels. (when I finally get them). I'll attempt to design it so no inch of it is being wasted. Sounds heavy!
Wired the lights in.
Some craziness going on! The old manifold was leaking from 3 different spots.
Wish this wasn't so fuzzy, but with the new intake and header.
Cut out a lot of rust on the drivers side quarter, folded back what I could, dropped in a patch or two with some sloppy newb welding.
Not professional, and you wouldn't pay me to do yours but it works!
That is all for now.

Oh derp, with the eBay header, 2.5" pipe all the way back through a hi flow cat and muffler with a 3inch chrome tip (gay, and I smashed the crap out of it stock wheeling on a rock. I got this done at a exhaust shop who did ZRJ's xj, didn't ask for the tip they just did it oh well.)
