Default My 98Jeep 2nd Life

Hello All:
Just few weeks back the engine died (70K only, L6 4.0L AMC-242LB-2) on road and need a new engine. I planning to have it replaced with rebuilt from http://atk-engines.com/ let me know if anyone want to share their experience dealing with them.

The challenge I am getting is the ATK person tells me that their matching cast #53020569 long block comes with 90 degree fuel filter set up where my current engine has a fuel filter configuration is with an adapter, where filter is not at 90 to the engine axis. Under to hood I can clearly see that 90 degree filter will hit the body of the Jeep, if installed that configuration. I have attached an image of both filter configurations here. I have been told by the ATK sales person that the 90 degree and other configuration are interchangeable with the 90 degree adapter which can be taken off from the old engine and put on the new. I believe the original engine filter configuration is little different where it actually tilts downwards by the means of the casting on the engine block, where this tilt does not exist on the 90 degree filter configuration, as it is visible in the attached picture. Has anyone experienced this issue before? What the sales person is suggesting is correct? Can the same casting number blocks have different integral configuration different?

Additionally, here are the items I am planning to have worked on Jeep while it is open:
  1. Replace radiator and hoses
  2. Replace belts.
  3. Any parts visually worn down or damaged to be replaced.
  4. Replace rear shocks since they are original and shows age. (any recommendation on make and type, I am not an off-roader but like to haul lots of heavy stuff often in this Jeep).
  5. Need to add a hitch and have no clue where to start. Hitch is needed to haul a trailer or flatbed as described in item #4.
  6. Any undercoating or corrosion protection I can take upon myself or have it done at shop? Since there is a good sign of brown flakes everywhere due to corrosion, especially in the chassis.
  7. Replace A/C compressor or replace the seals on top of the compressor since the refrigerant does not stay more than few month.
Please advise your thoughts on the Engine issue and the rest of the questions. Feel free to recommend any preventative items. As you can tell I am not a mechanic but building up my knowledge to revive this Jeep.

Thanks,
