yep, looks like I have the 231.

Looks like my next investment will be tire rods since my bushings are not looking to hot. Might as well upgrade!

I washed and cleaned up my Jeep yesterday. I still need to do the windows but heres how she shines...

I found some old "black magic" trim treatment stuff in the garage and took it to my fenders. Well, it worked fine on the passenger side, but the drivers side was more faded and may have even been painted black over the factory color at one point. I think the combo of that and that the stuff was probably 15+ years old caused this...

Heres the passenger side, turned out fine.

I thought i'd take some interior pics too. Its pretty clean. There are a few minor random carpet stains on the drivers side, and one on the rear bench seat, but other than that its relatively clean. It had a new headliner put in by the PO too!

And then a random pic of my transfer case... cause i somehow managed to look at and google every number on it except "231" *facepalm*

And my future plans for it as of now....
Logans metals front winch bumper
Crown steel braided extended brake lines (blue color)
Tie rod with ends (still deciding on brand, suggestions welcome!)
Home made no weld roof rack

Of course there are a million more things I'd like to do, but i listed what i'll be able to afford and is most likely to happen in the next couple months or less.

If anyone knows of some easy and cheap mods they think would look good let me know!

I know build threads are supposed to be never ending, but I feel stuck. What else should I do? This is my daily driver, but I will take it wheelin' from time to time. Has anyone had smog issues(in CA) after putting on aftermarket exhaust and intake? Also, what would you guys recommend doing first? the intake or the exhaust?

Exhaust, intake and tbs if ur looking for some more power/speed, I know everyone has their own opinions on the TBS and im not looking to start a war but I did notice a difference in power and mpgs on mine. Dual exhaust ran out the side with a super 44 muffler sounds like no other jeep ive ever heard, I get compliments on mine literally every day I drive it. Then for the money the 703 injector swap is a hell of a deal for some more power and mpgs. Just my opinion on what to do next, your jeep looks awsome man keep up the good work.

Thanks man, ill have to look into the 703 injectors. Where can I find them? I've been contemplating doing an exhaust or the bumper, and then doing the other in the spring when my funds allow. Isn't the duel exhaust considerably more expensive? I've been looking at the magnaflow and flowmaster kits(2.5in) and I'm split on them at the moment. I've been trying to find some good audio on them but everything I've found so far is ****ty youtube quality stuff.

Well my exhaust was done by my buddy who owns an exhaust shop so it was fairly cheap. But if you do them out the side before the front wheels it shouldnt be very much at all if you have an exhaust shop make it themselves but its hard to tell being that were in different areas. Im dealing with a knee injury right now but when I can ill get a video made up of my exhaust from my iphone so it shouldnt be that bad of quality. If it were me id go with the exhaust before the bumper since it helps with mpg's, plus I kinda got a thing that goes somethin like "if it aint loud it aint right" lol but thats just me. Ill try to get a vid made up and let ya kno what it sounds like sometime soon man.

sorry just realized I never answered your question about the 703's. If you go to the for sale forum here you should be able to find them no problem. You should be able to get them for no more than $60 shipped and if you look hard enough may be able to get them cheaper. For basically $10 an injector and for the improvements they make its deffinitley worth it. Do a search on 703 injectors aka neon injectors and read up on all the benifits they provide. Hope this helps ya man

You have a C8.25 in the rear, stock gearing is 3.07's since it s a 5 speed. And your transfer case is a NewProcess231 (NP231)!

Pop the hood and look at the injector plugs..if its anything under a 99 I believe..then you need to check because some jeeps got the newer style clips while some have the older style.
Newer style clip means you need 784's, older style you need 703's..only difference is the clip! Great upgrade, very helpful in throttle response & mileage! 4 hole design vs our 1 hole design..obviously the 4 hole will have a better spray pattern & will atomize better..thats where you will see the gains!

For more power & get up you bore you throttle body to a straight 60mm...currently is 60mm above the butterfly & 55mm below it..its as simple as using a drill and a hole saw! Takes about an hour, you can also relocated your IAT sensor, setup you CPS to advance timing 6*, make a cowl snorkel!
Cowl snorkels cost like 20 bucks..really easy way to get colder air & raise the induction point!
You could do all this stuff for the change in your couch cushions, and then spend your money on a exhaust! Alot of jeep fun stuff that will make it a much better vehicle all together! And all this stuff is cheap & quick to do! You can honestly do it all within a day.

Not sure if it was posted but do you know or did the seller ever say what gears it had in it? If its still got 3.07's then you can go buy the axles out of an auto and have 3.55's..which will give you slightly better gearing than stock! Its cheap and the perfect upgrade if you plan to stay on 31's!

Thanks man. I've been wondering what the factory color is. It seems pretty rare. I've got a faded spot on my hood from what looks like an injector fire. When I got the jeep it had sat in a barn for a while and had a rats nest in it. I'm thinkin they may have chewed through a few wires. It was all fixed and replaced before I got it, but the faded paint circle remains.

Ya, this was the only 5 speed I've seen on my local CL that was 97+. If fact I had never driven stick when I got it. My dad drove it home and taught me the next weekend lol. I've riden motorcycles when I was younger so I had the concept down, just different motions.

What should I look for on the clips? Ill have to look into the cowl snorkel. Hell I could do that this weekend. As cool as they look though, and the gains, I still don't know how I feel about cutting a hole in the side of my jeep. As for what gears I have, I'm assuming 3.07s. I doubt the previous owner could have told me what motor was in the jeep, let alone the gearing. He downed 4 beers in the half hour we looked at the jeep and talked him down a good deal on the price. Good thing he only had it for a couple months!

I've been looking at exhausts a bit more and I've found some FM 40 series mufflers for $90 and under. The kits with 2.5in pipe are like $500... why??? I feel like I could buy the muffler and have a shop install some 2.5in pipe for less than that. If I were to get just the muffler for now would it be worth it? At least for sound?

Thanks guys

If your gonna spend the money for a muffler you might as well get the rest of the exhaust wether it be a catback or watever. Hell if ur lookin for a little better sound for a fairly cheap price have a shop straight pipe it or throw a glasspack on. Both options should be around 25 dollars. As far as exhaust kits, I wouldnt waste ur money, just have a shop fab up their own it will be way cheaper than a kit and sound just as good plus you have options that are completley up to you ie: size, location, angles etc. My exhaust I took off the cat, ran 2.5" pipe into a flowmaster super 44 and ran duals out before the front wheels and like I said I get complements everyday but thats the cool thing about having a shop make your exhaust, all the options are completley up to you.

Ill have to find some local exhaust shops. I'm in Califorinia so I can't take off my cat... I'm hoping to get a little better fuel economy and nice sound.

Thanks for all the info man, I appreciate it.

Dude I'm in cali!
Look up XJSOCAL.com its our local site!

As far as cowl intake..you don't cut holes in the side of your jeep! Here take a look!
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=jeep+...t:429,r:5,s:15

Its super simple & ya you have to cut 1 but its under the hood where no one will see!
If you haven't yet pull out your intake silencer. It'll sound better & you'll get some throttle response out of it.
http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoSilencer.htm

Ya you have 3.07's..like I said 3.55's will be a cheap & great upgrade! You could get the axles for about 100-150 a piece at the junkyards! I run 31's and have 3.07s..I already have my 3.55's axles waiting to go in lol!
The bored throttle body will take minutes..just need a drill a holesaw and some sandpaper. Its super easy, and it worth a couple horses...
