Just do a cowl intake! Don't just throw a filter on it!
When I got my jeep I had just a filter, now its got a stock airbox with a cowl intake and I'm much happier!

yup, theres this style that crosses over the engine bay.

OR something like this.
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f177/...ntake-1106513/

I chose the second route! I bought a 2-3" adapter..so its 2" opening to 3" at home depot for like 3 bucks..the 2" side went into my air box and then I clamped a 3" hose onto the other side and ran it exactly like in the pictures!

What you need for the project would be the 2-3" adapter, 3" length of hose, 2" hole saw & 3" hole saw.
The plus about this intake is that 1 it keeps the factory look, nice & clean. And 2 is raise the induction point incase you ever go puddle splashing or ever hit a deep water source!

You can use 3" dryer hose or something similar..maybe those RV drain hoses from lowes/home depot? Or autozone sells a 3" hose for like 20 bucks.

I would like to personally thank you for ridding your jeep of those HIDEOUS rims from the first pic or 2...ugh. That being said, I definitely think you've got potential in this thing. I can list a few easy mods you can do that will make it your own, sort of like what I've done to mine. check my build thread for examples.

Yours is still stock, right? No lift? Roll with it. Stock XJs, while not capable of the epic feats you see from some people with 6 inch lifts, 35 inch tires, and countless other trail rig mods, stockers are still quite capable on their own with just a few basic things like good tires. You can fit 30 inch tires on the stock body without more than some very slight trimming.

just read this and I can say this much. IF YOU ARE GOING ALONE, without any other vehicles, DON'T PUSH YOUR JEEP!!! If it looks too tough, don't risk it. You don't want to get in too deep and break something and be stranded. However, from experience, I can also say don't ever doubt your baby. My Anya hasn't let me down yet when offroading. with worn out stock tires I managed to climb halfway up a snow pile last winter before I got stuck. And it was a clearance issue, not a tires issue...my lower control arms got buried, lol.

Also, the earthquake the east coast had a few months back...yeah, after it happened I had to cross a muddy, messy little place to get home to my pets and make sure nothing had fallen on them. I didnt even feel the mud and ruts, Anya glided over them like they werent even there. XJs are a beautiful, wonderful machine. Treat it well, and it'll do the same to you.

np, nice, definitely try to keep it stock if its your daily driver. everybody always puts lifts on their jeeps asap, and huge tires and stuff...no need for it. i love my stock rims, and i cant wait to get some good tires on them.
