Default My 1988 low budget build

It’s an 88, 4.0, 5 spd base model. Bought it last January. Pretty much stock, had a Yakima roof rack and a cheap LED light bar in the front. I have been collecting parts for a lift. Found everything used, a 4.5” RC with leaf springs. A adjustable track bar and some extended sway bar connects. I bought new brake lines for a TJ if I remember right.
Got some used 33s and some 15x8 steelies.
More work and more pics to come.

Stock

Looking great. Really like that color.
Flywheel and clutch show chattering and slipping. 33s and 307 gears might be alittle hard on the clutch. What did you replace it with?

+1 on Luk parts. I used their master cylinder last summer to replace my original unit. Quality part

While you have it out you might aswell replace the transmission mount. And while your at it you might aswell replace the motor mounts.

The trans mount looks pretty new. I’ll check on the motor mounts though. Appreciate it

Got it back together and running. Also scored some used adjustable arms from a WJ grand Cherokee for 65 bucks

New flywheel and pilot bearing

Pressure washed the trans. New clutch, lines, and Clutch MC. Also had to repair the clutch pedal they was bent.

Back together!

Floor rust cut out. Ready for the new pan!

Scored some used adjustable arms

Was the pedal the clutch problem. I had a xj come to me that needed a clutch. I found the welds on the clutch pedal broke replaced pedal assembly with a junk yard one and it was good to.

No it had clutch chatter bad. But the pedal was bent back and the last person had the clutch MC rod extended to compensate.

There's just something about your rig that's perfect - I can't really put my finger on it, but the stance plus the wheels/tires and the color and the crossbars are great. Honestly, it might be because I too was born in 88 and have always wanted a Jeep that's the same age as me lol.

Any plans to regear it soon (assuming you have stock gears right now that is). I could only imagine what 3.07s and 33s would be like...

Thanks for the compliments. I’m happy with the way it’s turning out. I should probably spend more time updating the progress.
I am keeping an eye out for someone selling some built axles or maybe just ones out of an automatic. My next objective is to get it road worthy.
I need to get the floor rust addressed, then replace my leaf spring bushings and my brake lines.

Floor section cut out

New pan in. Not proud of a couple spots. Seam sealer will help that though
