This odd paint job may look weird but it is highly practical. The lighter colored semi-glossy roof and hood keep the engine a slight bit cooler and the cab noticeably cooler.
I'm just gunna come out and say it, you have the most peculiar taste in colors haha
Went to the JY and scavenged a pair of liftgate struts from a Ford Exploder and they worked great on the XJ...though I did have to modify the plastic in the jamb a little bit...modified by breaking a little bit of the plastic off using a screwdriver as a chisel...
Worth it!
Since the liftgate is now strutting it's stuff, it seemed like a good time to get it to match the headliner...
...and I painted all that gray trim in the back black to match the rest of it, but I don't have pics of that.
I don't yet have the $ to do all the badarse stuff ya'll want to see in an XJ build...yet...but I have been going through the Jeep trying to get it running and driving as close to perfectly as I can and with reasonable success.
Updates...
1.) Switch panel for the lighting is working perfectly.
2.) Added blue LEDs in the instrument panel and got them all working. (there were no dash lights working before) I will be repairing all of the lighting that was originally there...of which none of them worked when I got it. The only lights that worked when I got the Jeep was the headlights and some of the the turn signals. All of the lights work now except some of the little lights in the cab. It has been way more work getting the lights back to operational than it would have been to rebuild and install a motor...seriously..
3) TPS adjusted, fixed idle issues and now runs like it might have when new.
4) Flushed the radiator out and the block, added a thermostat (it did not have one.)
5) Put window tint on the drivers half of the Jeep, but it got too windy to do the other half so I will get that done soon...
6) rebuilt the sun visors as they were toast. Now they are black pleather with blue suede stitching. I haven't finished them just yet because I want another vanity mirror for the passenger side. I moved the one that was there to the driver side so I can look at myself when I am driving and be real dangerous on the road.
Next on the list is an alarm with remote start, power door locks, starter kill and more....this is primarily so that I can lock the doors. As it stands, none of the door locks work and I don't have a key for them anyway. Eventually, I may buy and install new lock cylinders in the doors, but the alarm system will just get it all working with a remote...and protect the stereo I am going to put in at the same time as the alarm.
I have been doing web design work for a car audio and security shop in exchange for gear. I might even put a sub in the back and make the Jeep rattle even more than it does now!
