Default help wanted

in 1998 my wife bought a 99 xj and it has traveled through the family being the daily driver for each of us at one time. It has finally made it back to us and I'm wanting to get into off road adventures lite. The tires are bald and I'm wanting to start there with new wheels (if necessary) and tires. I'd like recommendations for the amount of lift and tire size that is adequate for light off roading and still able to drive interstate speeds to the trails. also, are there any MUST HAVE components for off road safety and somewhat self sufficiency. Thanks in advance. Eric

Stock is perfectly fine for "lite" offroading. 235/75r15 tires will be fine as well. Now if you just really want to lift, you vcan go 3 inches.

You could get away with 31s on a 3 inch lift with minor trimming if you're careful
