Hit the road at 7:30 am, drove to Charlotte, NC, picked up my XJ D44 and headed home. Pulled in the driveway at 9:45 pm. Looooong day, but oh, I can't wait to get started on the axle candy!! Woohoo!!!

Oil pressure dropping off again....
More oil fun, plastic handle on oil dipstick broke. Looked at it funny and it slid deeper in. s a matter of fact no matter what I did, it kept sliding further down. Ended up cutting the mounting arm, sliding the tube out, pulled out the dipstick, and reassembled.

After all the work, new sensors, tuneup, idle is still rough. Pulled power from each injector one at a time. Number one has no affec on the motor when pulled. Replaced it with a known good. Still nothing. I think I might have lost compression on number 1.

No more steam in the exhaust. Seems to be holding coolant. Hasn't gone over 210.

Next, I'm plug up a code reader and check the codes. Then, compression test.

uh-oh. Maybe a blown head gasket? But then you would still be burning coolant....hmm It could just be the wiring harness to that injector.

Default Starting to work on the D44 for the black jeep

over the course of the weekend, I cleaned up the Dana 44 - knocking off the rust and dirt - etc.

Here's the paint I'm using. Picked it up at TSC.

Since these pics I have pulled the axles, backing plates, etc. Finished cleaning up those areas and painted them as well. I have ZJ disk brakes that will be going to the machine shop shortly.

Not sure about what I'll do with the cover. I'm considering an OX locker, but we'll see how the funds hold out.
