Dave's 2000 XJ Clean & Capable
Here we go...again. 3rd times the charm..maybe? This will be XJ build #3 for me. It all started with my first 1988 XJ...then to my 98...then to a toyota for a month..Now back where I belong..
Just picked up a:
2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic
I6 4.0 HO (with only 91K on it )
LP D30 Chry 8.25 (29 Spline)
Tow Package
Overhead console (tells DTE, MPG, Temperature, etc..)
Factory 16" Wheels
32" Tires
Currently has a horrible 2.5" BB on it..rides fine, just sketchy with big spacers. Stock steering, cut fenders (way higher than I like in the front) bedlined rear quarter panels (herculiner), and a busted front clip..which I really need to fix, it looks like crap.
I sold my toyota, picked this thing up for a fair price..Im really happy with the low mileage, and the clean interior.
My goals for this thing is to be a clean DD, but also be a mean rig for expedition style trips, some mild crawling, and an all around ready to go rig.
Long term goals:
5.5" of lift (Maybe 4.5" still undecided)
35s (unsure if I want to go Moabs or just go with soft 8s this build)
Sliders (will be coming soon) (will be making these with a buddy, and hopefully soon selling them to you all at a great price!)
Front slim winch bumper with a basic 8000lb winch
Rear aftermarket bumper (orfab maybe)
Custom 3 link (also custom fab'd by my bud)
D44 Front out of a rubi TJ (Selectable locker)
D44 XJ Rear (selectable Locker)
Beef steering..maybe Serious or JCR..
Cargo area False floor
Power Inverter.
OBA.
Im sure ill think of other things. Right now im still running everything down, seeing what all the PO fudged up. So far all is good other than that darn front clip. Feel free to add suggestions..Pics will come soon!

sweet glad to see you got another xj! im planning to go for around 5.5 and 35s too. i love the name of the build because im trying to do the same thing with mine. i would go with the soft 8s or something other than the moabs so you can get them in the right backspacing without spacers. as for the rubi 44, why not just a hp30 with wj knuckles? that way you get better steering. whats the advntage of the rubi44?

Factory air lockers in the Rubi 44
Plus a stronger Ring and Pinion..
On the wheel topic.. I love the Moab look, really like the AEV Pintlers..but way to expensive for me. Id like to find some nice 16" Moabs..
Right now im rolling on 16" Cherokee Limited Rims..They are pretty nice!
Glad to be back to the XJ!

Fenders arent cut up crazy far..right to the bottom of the washer fluid.
Need to find a front header

Looks nice. I see you passed on the Comanche you were looking at, would been a fun build. Looking forward to this one though!
I agree on the front fenders. They're higher than what I prefer.
Let's take that thing on its maiden trip sometime soon!

Just purchased a new header panel along with new grille, turn signals, side markers, and headlight bezels. Should be here the day after christmass (go figure). In the mean time to combat the death-wobble think im going to go ahead and upgrade to ZJ tie rod and swap in a spare set of stock lowers I have laying around. Then do a driveway alignment and hit the highway.

Look at your track bar first, the axle end bushing specifically. They wear out before most other stuff.
I wouldnt buy a back hatch just to have around, those things are big, heavy, and will be in your way everyday! Let someone else store it for you!
I don't mind the front fenders, looks like they're cut on the outside of the original flare line. If you're gonna put 35's on there, you're gonna like the way they're cut!
