Gotcha. I got one with the cast wedges from a 78 and wound up reselling it because of the cast wedges and found a good deal on one from a 77 so I could weld to it. I wanted a 3 linked front and wanted to truss it or I wouldve just kept the 78. Nice work though!Originally Posted by X1994J
In 78 and 79 the radius arm C's are cast in the axle housing, not welded to where you can cut them off. So you have to maintain the ford arm on the axle side. Because of the design you do not have to run an upper link. Just the two lowers and a track bar.

For most yours is the ideal setup. I went the cast direction simply because I found a HP D44 with 4.88's, detroit, all new 1-ton tie rod end steering and drag link for 450 bones. So I found a 9, ordered some 4.86's, a full spool, and the hard part was done. So how are you liking the full width's Tennessee?Originally Posted by TennesseeXJ

Yeah im still gathering parts. I ordered some 5.13's, spools, hiem joints from ballistic, and then a bunch of other random stuff (like ball joints, hubs, rotors, calipers) to rebuild the front and then some brackets, rotors, and calipers to do discs on the rear. Im gonna do a cage, chop top it, plate the frame, flip the rear springs, and do a fuel cell so i figured i would just knock it all out at the same time while everythings apart

I seen you trussed the top.. any plans to strengthen the rear of it?
I have the same plan for mine.. but I am going to use a 73 drum brake HPd44, and a ford 9" with discs. MIne will be a 3 link though.
Still very cool build.

Are you running a EB HP D44 or one from a F150?
If it's the F150 version did you stay full width or narrow it?

Very cool man. Almost exactly what i'm in the middle of doing. 79 D44 and 9", but i'm running 4.88's. Detroit in the front, full spool rear. Can you post some more pics of it sitting at ride height? What size tires are you running? NM I see you're running 35 12.50's, I just sold mine going to 37's. I'd like to see some more detailed pics of your arms if you have some. How long are your arms from the inside of the "C" to the end of the weld in bung? How does it handle / drive on the street? Thanks.

The arms are 85cm from inside the "C" to the weld.

& it drives great considering i´m not using sway bars.
no death wooble or anything.

I don't think so, i trussed it just for strength cause ford 9" tend to bend easier than others..Originally Posted by PingPong

Thanks man. I like your setup. Mine will be almost identical. I'm trading my 7" coils for 5's to get it a little lower. Have you had any problems with just 2 bolts per side on the cross member? Are those bolts in the factory location or do they go through the floor?
