Welp... Tried to rotate the engine so I could put piston #1 @ TDC and it appears that a valve contacted the piston and caused this to happen to the timing belt...
I'm going to try and source a belt locally if I can and then I'll pull the valve cover and pull the rockers so all the valves get sucked up into the head and I can rotate the crank without interference into the valves. This will also hopefully tell me if any of the valves are bent.

Yeah..... When I get a new belt I'm going to pull the valve cover and inspect everything. Worst case I have to pull the head and replace valves/rockers. They are buyable items and it's not the hardest thing to do, but I'd rather get away with just a timing belt.
The turbo does have a small amount of noticeable shaft play.. Supposedly the Winnebago engine had a larger turbo, so that will definitely be something for me to look out for. Until then I'll just run the turbo currently on it.
If anyone happens to know someone or find a timing belt cover, please hit me up. It would make it so much easier to time the engine since there are a couple conflicting images showing where to set the cam and pump.

I'm determined at this point lol. It just won't be running as soon as I was hoping.... Oh well. Gives me time to do some cleaning, painting, etc.
Well, since I am one of the only few people that can shine light on this mother... You found me at the Comanche Club, some of you have probably been all over my threads... Might as well poke my head up in here also....

I imagine that the OP must have had the belt come off when doing the water pump and put it back on in the right place. Zombie, it doesn't sound like you had any business in there and I think you now know that. Hopefully, the god-knows-how-old-belt was the weak point. The rockers are made to snap off in the case of contact from mistiming (This is an interference motor, you made the valves kiss the piston). Pull the valve cover and see if any rockers are snapped or valves bent. Once you are sure that everything seems in place...
First things first, you need a new belt kit. The new kit comes with an improved belt tension assembly, so you would be better off.

And here are some general pics to help:

And some money shots:

It may be a long shot, but talk to the British that are on here, or even European members. I know some country's still have a lot of cars with 2.1L Renaults.

From what I understand you know your stuff, but just trying to help that is a link to a Renault Workshop repair manual dated December 2000.
