Default Can I change from 2 WD TO 4X4

Have chance to buy 96 cherokee original owner 60,000 for 500.00 that drives like a new truck.4.0, 5 speed,just buying as hobby truck to mod if I can make it 4x4.Can I buy used 4x4 transmission and have it work or will existing computer throw everything off,If I can do this how much do you think used parts list would cost

Just grab a trans a t case a drive shaft and an axle from a junk yard. No codes or anything should show up. If you did it from a junk yard it would probably run 5-700

you will also need t-case shifter with bezel and linkage along with front AND rear drive shafts.

be sure to grab the parts from a 95 and up so you get the larger joint axle shafts and no chance to get the vacuum disconnect axle.

you can choose either the 242 full time case, or the 231 part time case, which i prefer as there's better aftermarket support.

i plan on doing this with a 5spd comanche in the future. gonna change it to auto. i already have a donor jeep with low miles. (my hundred buck jeep).

More affordable to hold out for a 4x4 I have thought about it before but the costs and time are just to much
