The Hornet is a Cherokee SE and was originally a Suffolk County Park Police vehicle (no Police Package). It was then bought and owned by a Vol FF, who definately left it to fall apart... along comes me... another Vol FF who love to restore things. Fresh off a 1966 Nova Wagon project, I bought The Green Hornet for $2300. I plan on lifting it 3" with a Zone Offroad kit, and while doing so, replace anything that needs it. The vehicle will eventually be given to my daugther when she turns of age to drive, so safety and reliability are a primary focus, then of course getting it Long Island beach ready. I will be using POR15 on the entire under-belly and undercoating everything with rubberized paint.

Here are some pics of what's been done already... I should have taken more shots from day 1... but I was too interested in just working on it.

Engine Bay... has since been wiped down and cleaned. On each side I removed everything treated and spot applied POR15 to any rusted areas, then sprayed with Rustoleum undercoating.

I have already replaced the Radiator & Cap, therm housing, therm, hoses, CCV valves, grommets, water pump, power steering pressure line, transmission cooling lines and the fittings on the tranny, valve cover gasket, oil and transmission pan gaskets, changed all fluids ... and a new air filter. Removed, wheeled, treated and painted any visible metal brackets like the radiator hold-down and the front clip flange.

I used Eastwood's "Under Hood Semi-Gloss Black". It looks factory.

She runs very strong, but there is a small exhaust leak in the rear flange and at the header collector.

Interior is two-tone... and needs a scrub-down. I have a new driver seat track as mine is broken. Also, I have a really nice upgraded speedo/gauge console to go in. I have the ultra basic fuel/speed/idiot light setup now. Should be a quick swap. Heat works, no A/C yet... down the road... and a few other issues to fix. But it has vinyl seats... go figure. I kinda like them.

Front end will be torn apart and all joints replaced, the axle bushings and everything that can be replaced will be as it's totally rusted/worn/dry rotted.

I bought stock UCA/LCA for now. In a few years I'll replace them with something more beefier.. but they will last until then.. if they break/bend I'll address it.

The Tie Rod is being replaced with the WJ V8 unit.

You can see the new cooler lines for the 231, and the new serpentine belt... along with new cap/rotor and plugs.

After taking more parts off, I found the u-joints were shot, the hub bearings moaned and groaned like ghosts... so all new u-joints, hub bearings, and rotors after this disaster occurred while removing them..
