Background 1998 Cherokee Classic moss green has been in garage since 2010 when it had over heating problem (over heated once).
Goal Street and OffRoad duty a mix of both worlds...
I am just a backyard mechanic so alot of things are going to be sourced...This has been an ongoing project for 2-3 years gathering parts here and there...Goal is to get it done this winter or next spring...God willing...lol
Engine:
Mercedes diesel 100k with Grease car veggie kit already done (took me a long time to find one that was a good price...Got this one for $900 which is a SMOKING price especially since it was the high end veggie kit from GreaseCar)...Found this gem about 2 months ago on Craigslist. triple threat electric fan and new cherokee radiator, Durango sterring box, steering and tranny coolers. Going to do a Koch Enterpirses mercedes swap...
Axles:
Dana 44 rear with IronRock truss, Grand Cherokee disc swap, axles, 30 spline OX locker, 4.10 R & P. (Found the Dana 44 in mid PA was a posi unit out of 89? Cherokee shame I am going to tear out the posi but it will be for sale...
Dana 30 stock 98 axle with Ballistic Fab Truss/Bracket upgrade, RCV 30 spline axles, OX 30 spline locker, 4.10 R & P, axles...
Transfer Case:
Local Craigslist find about 60k Dana 300, found LoMax 4:1 kit, JB Custom Fab cable shifter, flip ring...
Transmission:
OEM AW4 with Transgo kit, RADesigns Rock shifter, Grenade handle, gone through by local tranny shop...
Suspension:
IronManFab long arms, Rubicon Express skid and long arm kit, trying to find used shocks (any suggestion on brand?), Rusty Leafs, Karange bracket from shocks, JKS accessories...
Interior:
Custom gauges, LED interior lights, digital camo headliner, Ruggid Ridge front seats, Monstaliner floor, 12 volt guy winch control, fuse block, air compressor system, DirtBound rear rack and window racks,
Exterior:
Roof Rack, APiller lights, local buddy going to Raptor whole outside Moss Green, custom louvers for hood, rear headlight CB, brush guard rear headlight gaurds, HID headlights, Logan front and rear bumpers, 15 x 8 Mickey Thompson side biter wheels, Bushwacker fender flares, Ruggid Ridge wind deflectors, Hellas all around, MileMarker Winch,
Let the fun begin...

Sounds like it will be bad ***. My dream would be an XJ built with a diesel. I wouldn't even care what diesel. Lol
Question, why keep the aw4? Seems to me you would have to have some kind of trickery rigged to get the TCU to run right unless you wired it up to he selectable. Why not go with a 5spd? Or the stock Mercedes trans? (I don't know if that would fit)
Especially since you scrapping the stock tcase.

Kinda why I went Mercedes mechanical engine best diesel ever made (can be an arguement) little wiring...lol. May have enough trouble trying to run off stock gauges...lol
Gonna use this kit (bolt in easy):
http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/product_p/a-mb206.htm
Also got good deal on RA Design Rock shifter...which IMO will be much better trail wise then a manual.
Wish I was as skilled as some of you guys who amaze me with your work...

tomorrow will get pics of Jeep... it is stripped (not much to see) I will get some pics of mercedes in a few days at buddies shop to show some of the veggie setup. trying to pull tranny and transfer case tomorrow. really need to get a torch to make life easier...going to borrow one hopefully.
Like I said going to be a slow build...lol has been already sitting for 4 years gathering parts.
Alot of the problem is I am not even close to skilled enough or have the time to freshen up the tranny, put in the r&p ox lockers drive shafts etc on axles, and put LoMax into Dana 300...plus I wouldn't trust it would rather pay someone who stands behind their work.

Basically skill level and cost. AW4 in it will freshen it up and the mercedes Diesel will not destroy it...If I was doing a 4BT yeah I'd do a heavy duty tranny...

1st dash with switches and winch switch from 12voltguy.com.
2nd custom dash gauges water temp, volts, oil pressure (i believe) bottom is digital tranny temp.
