97 ZJ "Black Beast"
Got this Jeep in September for my 16th birthday present and it pretty much sat until I got my license in February.
$2200
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
4.0 I6 170,000
New Jasper Transmission in 2008
Some old man owned it before me. He smoked in it and never took care of it. I wish I had pictures of the first day I got it... it was disgusting. I did some basic maintenance on it to get it running and past inspection;
New:
Battery
Belt
Air Filter
Oil
Brake Pads
Brake Rotors
Calipers
AC Compressor
Clean out throttle body
Oil pan
I'm sure there was more, just can't remember
For Christmas I got some goodies to replace the crappy stereo system;
-Pioneer Head Unit
-Pioneer Front Door Speakers
-Sony Rear Door Speakers
-Bazooka Bass Tube
I am very impressed with this system considering it was done for around $200. Sounds way better than expected and me and my Uncle installed it.
After that I did a complete detail of the interior and made it look brand new on the inside. Next, I painted the cladding and bumpers with krylon fusion. Turned out reallllly good! Definatley recommend doing this and it wasn't that hard. I bought some cheap paint chip filler from Walmart and I was happy with the results.
I ran into a problem with this annoying loud noise coming from the rear. I took it to my mechanic and he changed the bearings and pinion seal and problems gone. He went ahead and changed the diff fluid while he was down there.

So me and my buddy finished the lift this morning. Wasn't too difficult and took about 5 hours. Went with the Iron Rock 3.5" Benchmark kit and some Dunlop Mud Rovers. Also, Rough Country has great prices on d-windows, I paid like $40 bucks a piece. Didn't even get the grease off my hands and I was already headed for the local mud "pit". It exceeded my expectations by far! It went through every single mud hole even the ones that my friends have bottomed out in. I wasn't able to get my self stuck when I tried. Needless to say, IMPRESSED! Here are some pictures.

Grew a pair and did the cowl induction air intake. Saw it on JeepForum and went ahead and did it. If your going to do it on a ZJ I recommend using 2.5" hose because there is a couple of things that get in the way. I wasn't able to bolt my air box back down. So, after 3 hours, a lot of brain power, and an injury from the hole saw...
Here is the hole in the cowl
