Cleaned out the tank, installed a new fuel pump and got it running again.
Need to remove and repaint
Atbsome point the nut on the driver side vent window latch was lost to the highway. I looked everywhere and couldn't find one so I ended up just making one.

New liftgate gas springs installed to replace the two different ones on it
Motor has a leaky valve cover, front main and rear main seal, and looked like it had been leaking for a while.
I ended up using a power washer and concentrated purple power detergent to degrease everything so I didn't end up filthy every time I looked at the thing
The grease slung up from the U joints was particularly fun to get off, it didn't help that the under carriage was sealed with tar sealant
After these were taken I ended up going a few more rounds of cleaning and degreasing.

Focuses on the mirrors, had to pull them apart to clean them up. I managed to get the glass off one without destroying it but it didn't really matter since both mirror glass was going to be replaced
Also tracked some of the door switch holding clips down, there's extremely similar reproduction versions available for 70's era Cougar's (the car, not the ladies)

Replaced the the problematic slip yoke with a rough country SYE. The 231 I have must be from an older model as this one still has the needle bearing and the new shaft is a lot more beefy
The stock gear is the right size, just needs the bearing pressed out.
Everything is back together, no leaks (yet)
I also installed a brand new RC shaft I picked up for next to nothing off CL

Pulled the valve cover off, cleaned the original cork gasket off and stripped and repainted
there was one broken bolt on the valve cover and I was able to extract it with the handle of a pick and some super glue. It took a few tries but I managed to glue the remainder of the bolt on and turn it out. The bolt was already loose, just needed something I could grab it with to turn it out
Repainted and reinstalled

Replaced the motor mounts and the transmission mount. Getting the passenger side mount bolt out and back in is a real PITA
These things were toast and probably original
My pile of old parts is growing

Pulled the back half carpet out, it was a disgusting mess, spent hours with the carpet cleaner, its about half way done in this picture
There was some rust but nothing requiring major surgery, scraped the rust off with a twisted wire brush and painted rust converting paint
Started installing the siless mat
Also was having issues with the rear doors as the latches needed some love...

Pulled the front carpet to find a bit of Cherokee cancer, the drivers side was surprisingly good with only a small amount of rust and a few pin holes
Cut out all the old rusty floor
Shaped and welded in a new 18g plate
I primed the backside of all the pieces and frame with weld through primer
I also plan to recoat the inside of the frame rails with Eastwood inner frame coating but need the weather to warm up first

Built a new wiring harness for the headlights and swapped them out with these LOYO LED headlights
The primary power for the headlights comes right off the positive battery off the fuse/relay block.
I ran a second positive directly off my ASD relay to drive DRL on the new headlights. If you plan to do this remember to put a snubbing diode on the output to prevent your lights from back driving the ASD circuit
