Default 89 xj build

Bought this few months back. Wasn’t sure if i should build it or leave it alone. Well, I’ve ordered a makeover for it consisting of a 3” IRO lift, rock sliders, HD steering kit, hidden winch mount, badlands winch, 33” gladiator take offs with KO2’s, bushwacker flat flares, and a spartan locker for the front differential. The rear is factory LSD. Not a rock crawler but think i should have a pretty capable trail rig when I’m finished. What do y’all think

I dont think i've seen those rims look that nice before. Did you have them plated or is that how you got the jeep?

Thats the way i bought it. They are just polished not plated. It even came with a 5th alloy in the back as spare. I got some gladiator take offs from a guy who works for a dealership that I will be using. Not sure but i think l will probably keep the stockers anyways.

That looks like it's been well taken care of and not an easy decision on your part. So far I've resisted with my white '89 ... but one day, you never know. Looking forward to your build .

I am hoping to keep it looking like a well kept XJ. The only noticeable difference should be the bushwacker flat flares and the late model gladiator wheels. The winch mount is hidden behind the stock bumper and i am trying to figure out how to modify the bumper center trim caps to cover the d-ring mounts coming through the bumper. started the teardown today. Waiting on parts deliveries. Dont look so nice without the flares and bumper but its all part of the process.

I may be happy to take your flares off of your hands when the time comes...

Well parts are starting to ship and arrive. Got my rock sliders today and lift kit shipped today. Everything taking more time to ship with whats going on in the world. So I got started with tear down, and replaced the ball joints after fighting to get the darn spindle to come off. Passenger side gave me a fit. All original parts from a 31 yr old vehicle. Tomorrow gonna take out the front carrier and replace inner axle seals and install spartan locker. Then finish reassembly of front axle.

Well it is taking alot longer then expected to get parts. But work finally picked back up from this pandemic so now i am back to work. But i did get some progress. Spartan locker is in front dif. Ball joints are installed. Back half of the lift is done and the 33’s are on. Liking where its headed.
