So if you haven't figured it out yet I added a swing out to my rear bumper. I have anchor points for the cargo area but it was annoying having to keep checking the straps holding the spare down and taking space. I bought the spindle kit and spare mount plate from AtoZ Fab and went to the local supply yard. I know the issues with these single shear spindle designs so the plan was to keep the leverage low and the clearance high. I mixed my favorite things between the FAO swing out and the Dirtbound swing out. Overall I am very happy with it, there are issues with these half swing outs like having to be more than 120 degrees open to clear the hatch when the 35" spare is on. The tube is 2x3 1/8" for the swing arm and 2x2" 1/8" for the gusset and vertical. I used some 3/16" and 1/8" plate to fish plate weld the arms and make the bends around the hatch stronger. I'm very happy with the design and the way it came out for a quick turnaround.

LOL you'll get better responses on your own thread. I hope you get it figured out

It's officially half door season. This Corona Virus is really buzzkilling the wheeling season, everywhere is on standby for the next couple months.

I don't think i caught it in the thread but what ever happened to that factory tire carrier? I forgot to mention I like how you did the rear shock mounts. I completely forgot about those trick ford Dorman mounts. I've been contemplating pass through shock setup on the rear of my 98 XJ and seeing your setup gave me some new inspiration for my build.

I sold the factory carrier when I knew I was getting more into rock crawling and wanted to go up to 35s. I'm friends with the guy I sold it to and it's still on his Jeep. I'm very happy with how my towers came out, my backspacing is pretty much minimum so I can't say at what point one would rub their tires on this setup, I don't though.

In other words I took some time to finally pick up a set of the omix extended rubber rear bumpstops that are 4"s long and flexed it out to get an idea of what I'll need to stop rubbing the top of the rear well when stuffed. Looking like i'll need to make a 3" block extension to give me about 3.5"s of up travel and 7" of rear bumpstop when all said and done.

Well after 4 some hours I got one bumpstop made. I snapped 3/4 of the bolts and taped the holes from the stock 8mm to 3/8". I did my math wrong earlier and used a 2x2" tube instead. Gives me 4.25" up travel with .75" of a gap at the fender. Tomorrow is another day. I don't know why the drill bits were having such a hard time going through the snapped bolt.

Very cool that its still getting used, those aren't the easiest parts to come by. Im on the hunt for one to put on my 89 Waggy XJ. I've seen the bumper mount setup but they just aren't that appealing to me.

Im running the same looking bump stops in the rear of my 98XJ Pretty sure they are the same (factory jeep comanche rear?) and i believe i have about the same up travel (maybe 3-4"). Thought i too want to want to put 35's on this jeep, it will eventually have to change.

Omix-ada extended XJ bumpstops. 4.25" long. With the fenders cut and rewelded it gives me about an inch more of uptravel, probably would be closer to 3"s if I still had the cut and fold. I'm very happy with my current swing out design I made for my 35" spare.

Picked this little guy up for $50. Time to start researching and bookmarking all that i'll need to build it the way I want and into the XJ. Looking at 4:1 gears with a flip kit and twin sticks. D30 digs anyone?
