New guy here, hello everyone.
I have Had 87 Chief for 10 years and the drive shaft fell off. I have a 89 pioneer that I want to use for parts. After the motor and drive train from the pioneer are in the chief, I want to rebuild everything from the chief. (build me a beast) as far as I can tell both are the same. 4.0, automatic. etc. Can anyone tell me If this will work. Are they the same?
Thanks
Gitz

Cool, Thanks Guys.
I posted 3 pics of the Chief on my album. I couldnt get a profile pic to post yet.
I need to take some of the pioneer. but it aint much to look at. But the guy I bought it from rebuilt and replaced alot of parts. It was a good find.
Between the 2 I should be able to build a pretty cool ride.
I will post some more pics later.
Thanks again
Gitz.

your 87 chief should have a rear dana 44.
the pioneer will have a dana 35.
whichever you build, use the d44 but you'll have to keep the driveshaft with the 44.

Thanks Caged
I know nothing at all about that, and many other other things I have read here. I can learn a lot from this site. I would like talk to all of you more as I go along here. I am not a mechanic. I am a pretty fair parts changer though. I have a good garage and a growing collection of tools. I am sure this will end well someday.

Hello! You picked a great vehicle to start building on. (XJ in general). You'll find that there are a lot of parts that can be used on your Jeep as "budget parts", I won't go into that now so you won't get confused.... I hope you have a junkyard close because you'll learn to love 'em!

My wife and I bought a 4 car Heated garage last October. After a while we noticed it also came with a 3 bedroom house. We was like "cool" we can sleep and eat in the house when we aren't in the garage doing important stuff.
It is two, 2 car garages built end to end. There is a one car drive Through that someone framed in with only a door to walk through. I am opening it back up. I will put one jeep in each garage for the duration. there is also a 12 by 22 carport on the side for daily driver storage and emergency repairs. I am going to spend a couple more days getting ready to move Red and Blue in.(as I will now refer to them) We have only been here a short time. I am still getting organized in the garage. Soon we will start with swapping motor and drive train.
I posted some more pics. I will post some of the garage too.

I have been looking at A lot of threads.
There is more you can do to a Jeep than I ever thought of.
When I got my Jeep years ago it was so I could get through the Denver snow storms. It has taken everything mother nature could throw at me and kept on going. That is why I am going to restore it instead of getting a new truck. I like going to the hills and finding a good dirt road, but I never felt the need turn suddenly turn left and drive up the canyon wall. As long as I can get to my camp spot and maybe some fishing holes I am good.
This will be more stock Restoration than rock crawler.
The first thing I did to it back in Summer of 91 was to use a eraser wheel to take all the black lettering and stripes off of it. I also took off the ugly factory Purple window tint. The next pics are from 91
