I have an 85 Cherokee 2.5 carb with 4 speed manual transmission and 207 tc. Now I run weber carb 32/36. My cluster is lights not gages. The 2.5 L died. And I would like to swap for a 4.2L, run same carb, can I keep the tranny and tc? Or do I need to swap? And does a 4.2 mount on the motor mounts of a 2.5?

Yes I would swap tranny and tc but that is me and to my knowledge the 4.2l should slip right in to the motor mounts in your jeep I would check and replace if need be but it should work

The ignition control Manuel its the same on 2.5 and 4.2 I check that but the ECM is lol different ...:..... So can I run the 4.2 on my stock or do I need to change an ECM

Hey njbozic, Were you able to put a 4.2 in your '85 Cherokee. I have the same year with a dead 2.5 and would like to do the same thing. How did it go?

Everything is bolt on wiring just you would need to work on motor mount.... Wires are going to same place transmission bolts on , you would need to move radiator lil forward . Jumpt the wiring from distributer to coil will work better and u'll avoid the ECM
