4-wheel All Time or Neutral ?????
I have a 1999 4.7 L V8 QuadDrive Cherokee
Would leaving my 4wheel drive in neutral instead of leaving it in "4-wheel All Time" on the transfer case during normal driving and normal weather condition pro long transmission and engine life?
Keep in mind I live in a mountainous area lots of mountain roads I think leaving the transfer case in neutral would be better for the vehicle but I really don't know.

this guy won't be back. i think you made him feel like an a$$.
to the OP, you have no choice but to leave your jeep in all time.
neutral on the transfer case is only for flat towing, ie, behind a motor home.

To the OP, don't mind the wiseacre's comedic commentary....Cherokees are tough-skinned and you should be too while driving one.
Unless something is worn out or broken in your front axle, driving in all wheel drive should not negatively impact wear-and-tear on the drivetrain, won't reduce power, and won't lower gas mileage. All of the parts are always moving in either 2wd or 4wd, but in 4wd the front gets torque too...
Do not use 4wd 'part time' to drive except in rough road conditions..
