Default 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sprt

First time poster, total Wife of a Jeep lover and pretty much came here to ask questions. If I'm in the wrong place, please let me know. Thank you...

So, our green baby has no reverse and is pretty much dead due to needing an new transmission system. Found a transmission online but you have to mail back the core. Aren't those things super heavy?

Is it worth it doing a transmission job yourself versus hiring someone?

We are sitting ducks without our Jeep and need a quick/lower cost solution.

Probably better off finding one on craigslist. You an find aw4's all day for under $300. Hell I have one I would give away. (I'm making the assumption you have an auto since you didn't put any details about your rig)
