Soo.. I have a 2000 Cherokee Classic (aka "Big Red"). Daily driver. She's completely stock right now but I'm looking to build. I'm having to rebuild the 4.0 in the next week or two. While I have it out, I was looking into performance gains. Any thoughts on changing pistons to flat tops or changing cam? Money vs gain? Can I even change it to a flat top piston or will it hit the valves? This is not only my first Jeep build, but my first ever engine rebuild. ANY tips or insight (not just on the performance parts, but the rebuild period) is more than welcomed and greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!

I think your biggest problem will be getting everything together properly. BE METHODICAL, DO NOT RUSH when you are putting the motor back together, keep it by the book. The 4.0 is a great motor and will last forever if properly built and cared for... As far as performance parts, talk to your local machine shop where you're taking your block and head to be worked, they usually have pretty good insight into decent upgrade parts for as little money as possible. IMHO.
