My welder is an idiot. If someone gave you very secific pictures of a relatively simple bumper like this: And told you to send pictures of the progress throughout the build would you take it upon yourself to bring creativity into the design. Sending this picture Friday night: And this picture Sunday morning: I'm what work is that the same. All you had to do is take a 3x3 tube and bend it like four times. This is how you don't get paid. So glad I write contracts for these types of Craigslist transactions. Rant over.

EDIT: That all seemed really negative and I'm sorry for that - in the end I'm down $200 for him to weld the DYI front bumper, from what I can tell it is well done. So I ended up paying the same as I would have if Dirtbound Offroad had welded it and shipped it direct. And need to find a new welder for the rear that knows how to make what I want.
that bumper looks sick! Always liked the 2 doors, maybe cause I drove my dad's wheelie pulling 2 door before lol
did you remove all the wirings from the engine bay before paint?
I'm planning to paint my engine bay in black too soon. Any tips or tricks how to?
If you look back on the build you can see I had the entire engine out when I painted my engine bay. That's how I would suggest doing it although it isn't terribly practical if it's not out for some other reason.

I took the engine already, but I don't know what to do with all the wirings and stuff.
Kyle, I'm going to be swapping parts off a red xj cheif, what is my best method for prepping the parts so I can make sure they blend together nicely without really disturbing the overall look of the Jeep. Btw your jeep looks so damn good

Okay that makes it easier. I had everything g out but the brake lines. I did a light scuff of everything because if it's glossy the new paint won't stick I also had the outer fenders off because I wanted to respray the entire front end. I used rustolem chassis paint from harbor freight.

Hey man, I wish I knew more about the paint side of things but I paid to have mine painted. I would recommend painting the entire jeep if you hadn't already budgeted for that. With the paint being at least 15 years old it'd be tough to blend it in. The body of mine was black and the front end is from a maroon jeep so I just did a lot of sanding. Then primered the entire jeep so that gets the colors the same so the main paint will definitely be the same from front to back. Once again, I'm no expert. Just how I did it.

would you suggest doing all the parts (in terms of painting them) at (roughly) the same time? Or go one part at a time.

What do you mean by parts? If your talking about parts under the hood, individually is the most manageable, sanding down the little parts at once and spraying as much as you can handle at a time. If you are talking about the body, doors, fenders - ideally I'd say all at once. but that requires a large air compressor. Id break that up into 4 or more sections. Reminder, I didn't paint the body on my Jeep myself.
Going to Albuquerque tomorrow to grab some parts off of a two door.
Complete driver's door
wiring for the seats, mine hasn't been working and I have some goofy splices from the PO
Rear luevers
possibly rear glass, mine has some scratches (unless anyone has some suggestions)
a rear hatch panel
wiper hood panel
wiper arm
The guy is selling the door for $50 complete, couldn't pass that up. Mine has some dents in it and I wouldn't mind the spare glass and window regulator. Anyone know how to get scratches out of the glass? otherwise I'll pull the rear glass from it too.
All in all a pretty good find, wish he had the passenger door still too. Would consider making some half doors.
That's a steal!
Could be a future half door if you ever go that route...
The scratches? Who knows? Maybe call satellite if they have some repair suggestions for it...
I mean they do fix/fill in chips in the glass...
