Yessir! Turns out it was the infamous CPS. Which isn't nearly as hard to get to as what I had been reading.

Also put a new distributor cap, rotor and wires in it. Figured might as well since I was already at the parts store.

This jeep now has a new home, I'll be sure to tell the new owner about the forum and the build thread, hopefully he will continue and keep it updated.

Went back to the dark side.
Picked up a cherry 2003 Tj rubicon with only 23,000 miles!

The build on this one will start soon, and the red roll cage needs to be painted ASAP.

I appreciate the kind words, it was time to move on from it though, plus I missed driving a wrangler!

Couldn't pass on the offer he gave me, and I couldn't pass on an 03 rubi w/ 23k.

I hope you got a screaming hot deal on your Rubicon. They are very nice. My son-in-law had one but decided to let it go to get out of debt.
I would love to have the 4-1 ratio transfer case and selectable front and back lockers.

The hybrid 44 up front and 44 in the back from the factory is nice too.

But I feel I got a great deal, sold the Xj and only had to add a couple thousand to own the rubicon. The Tj blue books at $20,500 and I got it for waaaaay less than that.

I'll no doubt miss the extra room that the Xj had, but man are wranglers so much fun to drive. I don't haul anything, so I won't notice it too much. Plus it's always pretty nice weather in Southern California so having a topless jeep is a perk!

I initially was going to keep the Xj and buy a project wrangler, but I couldn't turn down what I was offered. At first it was a bit discouraging as rigs built more than mine were selling for less than what I felt mine was worth, you know? But I got my asking price so all is well!
