I will start this thread off with an announcement, I changed positions within my company and now work from home. No more driving an hour to work and an hour home, I work 7-3:30 M-F and as soon as 3:30 comes I am off the clock and already home, giving me more time for builds and honey-do's, its the same pay plus its about a $500-600 a month pay raise in not paying for fuel.
So I will continue with the notification that the 93 father son beater jeep https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/fa...-93-xj-259846/ is dead. After getting into it, the "frame" was just to bad and I couldn't justifiably put my kid behind the wheel of it. We also have the Samurai we are still building for more hardcore wheeling so the 93 XJ just kind of sat there for a few months while I looked for a possible donor or direction to go. One of my co-workers said he had an XJ that his buddy owed him money and he took it in trade, the motor mount was broken and the transfer case leaked, AND he didn't have the title. I told him I was interested ONLY if he could get the title from his friend, about 1.5 months later he had the title in hand, 2 weeks later I went and looked at it and brought it home for $300.
I aired up 2 of the tires, put a fresh battery in, some fresh gas, and it started up.
a beauty queen she is not right now

but she is fairly straight minus the driver rear door

story is someone got into it and stole the stereo and messed up some wiring, so I get to fix that

Its dirty, and the seats to the side, but really its not horrible

I was told the motor mount was broken and there was a piece of chain holding it together... uh ya...

The PO drove it for 2 years with the chain holding the passenger side of the engine up!!! when it broke (as so many of these do) it broke the embossed bolt hole off the side of the block. I debated on getting the bigger brackets which grab more holes on the sides of the blocks (and I still might) but for now I am going to pull the engine from the red 93 with all its new parts.
Also we will be using all the saved up parts from the red one
new brakes
rear discs
lockers
gears (trying to decide if I will run the 4.88's I have or drop down to 4.56's)
steering from Barnes 4WD
control arm drop brackets
adjustable control arms
AZZY linkage
axle seals
SOLID diff covers
ext brake lines
RUFF STUFF front frame plates
RUFF STUFF u-bolts and spring plates
JCR steering box brace
new muffler
trans mount
dual batteries
winch (deciding between bumper mounted or removable mount)
Stinky Fab shackle relocation brackets
aluminum radiator
3 electric fan shroud
separate trans cooler
and various other parts

So a year plus later after the realization that I work even more hours at home than I did in an office. I have finally started working on this thing. Along the way I have ordered more parts for it, I have some 33" tires coming for it Tuesday so I better make it run and drive lol.
I decided to try and run this engine with the broken bolt hole, I ordered a set of Ironman4x4fab brackets and motor mounts. I started stripping the passenger side of the engine down so I can install the new plates, got down to removing the alternator and realized its a load bearing alternator lol.

I was by myself this weekend and didnt have a way to safely move the jeep closer to the shop, I didnt want to remove the alternator and pray the chain by itself would hold. so I moved over to the driver side where I found this.

I finished pulling the air filter box and a few other small things then before ending for the day I grabbed all the partial cans of brake, carb and choke, and engine degreaser I had laying around and doused the engine.

wow, looks like you have your work cut out for you! I had a '95 that was pretty bad off the same way, same side. I got a set of brown dog motor mounts as it completely eliminated the issue with that broken bolt and was .... well it was AMAZINGLY stout! Best of luck to you, I'm in washington as well, about 4 and a half hours away lol

Got it moved down in front of the shop last night and worked on installing the passenger side engine bracket and mount from ironman fab 4x4.
had to use a ratchet strap to pull the engine over far enough to get the bracket slid in

These brackets are supposed to grab 8 bolt holes, obviously i needed them because one of the stock mount holes was broken off the block but one is so wallowed out nothing grabs and one might be able to be fixed but 5 out of 8 is better than stock lol. I need to modify my alternator bracket for the bigger alt then i can finish tightening the two front bolts.

those that have installed brackets like this, what did you do about the coil mount?

So my kid came home with the crud from a hockey game 2 Fridays ago, and of course gave it to me this last Friday. Saturday we were busy and Sunday the wife also came down with the crud so nothing got done yesterday except cough, sneeze, hack and repeat.
I already had today and tomorrow off so i forced myself to go work on it today since i am feeling a "little" better. woke up this morning to snow, ran into tri cities for a set of S-10 leaf springs to make a bastard pack, then it proceeded to rain off an on all day.
In between the rain showers I pulled the intake and exhaust, figured it would make it a lot easier to get the driver side mounts in, plus i have new injectors for it and wanted to just make sure it had a good gasket and get a look at the exhaust manifold.
manifold looks good

glad i pulled the injectors for new ones, look at all that build up

Had to get a little "creative" to get the driver side to line up

but in the end both sides are done

So i got this XJ from a co-worker who got it from a friend that owed him money. I bought it knowing full well it had issues and the previous previous owner didn't take care of anything they owned but even my friend was shocked by this.... the engine and transmission are not even bolted together.

I was correct that there was not a single bolt holding the trans and engine together. The bolt for the upper passenger side was sitting on top of the bellhousing and the other three were MIA. So far i have the two driver side bolts in but the passenger side was giving me issues so i decided to work on something else and come back to them.
hauled the valve cover, intake, and throttle body into the car wash, new fel-pro rubber "gasket" much better than the cork and silicone it had

I took some parts off the old red cherokee that i still have as a parts donor, the throttle body spacer came from it, the water pump, heater pipe, thermostat and housing were all new on the red one so i swapped them to here. new 4 hole injectors

I am installing a bigger alternator (cant remember what its off of lol), I was going to modify the bracket and install it in the stock location but the alternator case hits the gear housing, then i thought about mounting it on top of the a/c bracket (done that before). then i thought about doing something different, wasnt sure what so i just sat there staring at it and i think this is what i came up with. The bottom of the alt is in the top of the original alt bracket, obviously i still need to make the upper bracket but i think this orientation is about where it will be, i moved the idler (needs replaced) to one of the through holes in the housing. all the pulleys line up and think the belt will have enough wrap to not slip on the alternator. anyone see a problem with this routing?
