Default 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4.0

Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum. I have aLeah’s dreamed of building an XJ into the ultimate rock crawler, but i am very far away from axles, lift kits etc… Ive been needing some answers on my build… I have a 1994 XJ, i bought it for dirt cheap here in Utah. I got it running and fixed all the rust holes in the floor boards. A few weeks ago i blew the motor. It blew a hole in the block on the drivers side. I have a 1996 XJ that has a good block… I’m just curious if i can completely swap blocks and keep the same head off the 94’?

I also have a few other questions.. Can i swap the horse shoe intake off a newer XJ and put on a 94’ head? Is it best if i do a complete rebuild on the 4.0?

LS swap in the future!

If the 96 engine is complete and good I'd just drop it in there as is. You already gain the benefit of the newer style serpentine belt tensioner vs the old setup that uses the power steering pump.

If its not complete then yes you can justdrop your 94 head on it and call it a day
