So I guess I could start working on the rear hatch since its been rainning everyday and will make a good indoor project.
heres my silver 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport Hatch. Even have the key to the lock and got it all for $30 at the JY

As for the hatch hinges I'm going to add the 84-96 on the top of the door as seen in the image above of the White Cherokee
I'm going to have to move the lift struts for it.

Cool

Working on the Flares and flare brackets

Have to rebolt most of the brackets due to them rusting and most broke off during the time I was taking them off. Redrilling and adding new bolts in them. probably an hour or 2 job, should have the 97-01 flares on tomorrow if not rainning. The good thing is the bolts were the only things rusted on them and not the brackets its self.

Sorry guys for not working on the hatch yet. Ive been working on getting the main fixes for the body, such as the rockerpanels and getting some fualty wiring fixed. It may even be a next year project, Wish I had the guarge built already.. But I did some information look up and Chrystler kept the same body frame from 1984-2001, there only changes to the body were the fenders, header Panel, rear hatch, but still kept the same bone structure.

wow yours looks just like mine, atleast when I had the chrome grille installed. Was thinking of getting the black style grille aswell. I have the 2 others so far, the Red grille "counting the light bezels" and the chrome. that way I can switch to what style I like. I had another post on here saying I wanted my Cherokee Hunter Green or Just all Black but it probablycost alot to change its color.

Mostly everyone on here is about building lifted Cherokees. I'm just building a stock 2001. And really mines just going to look like "00xj-classic" Cherokee when its all done.

But yeah for everyone wanting to add the back hatch on there 84-96 you'll have to mod the door with the 84-96 top hinges.
And as you can see its possable to turn your older Cherokee to a new model. or the other way around for newer model Cherokee owners. And really I can't even tell that this is a 84-96 Cherokee model anymore. Other than the rear hatch.

for the header panel I really just unscrewed the 1 bolt behind each headlight and the top metal strip thats under the hood. for the hatch, I think the other hing set thats on the roof not the door is welded on. You can probably check at the JY but there are 2 holes on each of them, that there probably bolts. If you get the 96b hatch you'll need the 96 tail lights as the 97-01 will not fit once you get the other door. If you really want to go back to the classic, you can get the small boxy mirrors. For the trim. you'll need the 96 flares "With the 84-96 Brackets" easy to find online than the 97-01 brackets I was trying to find. The corner end cap bumbers and the two front bumber blocks. And I think you'll need the front fenders for sure if you get rid of the front endcap bumbers or you'll have a gap there between the wheel and bumber.

And always remember, don't get rid of your old parts. fenders, flares, headerpanel, hatch ect. I kept all my parts including the trim, never know when you'll need to put you header panel back on due to a deer.

Well I got my passager mirror on and was thinking about the door trim. How its very easy to remove. Its held on by those plastic screws. I was thinking of getting this style
The all black or charcole color

Heres my doors now. All plain

If I got those door panels I could probably add power locking.
but this is just an idea, don't know if i want to do it or not. if I do will havev to do all 4 doors. this color also matchs the rear hatch inside.

this build is F###KIN awesome... I cant give you enough credit.. and your doing the interior to, HOLY $hit.... this is some hard core dedication.. love the jeep!!!!!!! I think you should leave the stock red grille in.. i swapped Crome grille out a couple months ago and I think it looks wayy better, Other than the rims i got on my jeep i think Crome and jeeps don't mix.. Are you doing all the interior parts or just seats door trim ect??? I am on the hunt for some leather LIMITED seats so if i find some i will sell you my seats for cheap, there in perfect condition, I will contribute my life to your project.. hahah... make sure to fill us in on your project.. i have a black 97-01 grille.. i dont have the bezels though.. LEt me know if you want it...

Whoa, wait, the newer 'rounded' mirrors are a direct bolt in swap? Sweet!

Holy crap why did't I think of this? Loving that idea! I think the newer switches are lighted, too. I can never find the right window switch in the dark on mine.

the mirror switch out is 3 bolts, same lineup and everything. the two bottom ones are hard to get too, need to undo the door bezel cover and got the idea for maybe changing them out. really the Cherokee XJ model is the same 1984-2001 just changed alittle small things but still can swap them out. Wish they still made the XJs and kept them the same as they are now. I don't know about changing everything in the interor but maybe the middle consel the the door bezel coverings I seen some cherokee owners swap the middle consel out with the newer model ones. Is anyone trying out the rear hatch replacement on theres? I'd like to see some pictures. I need to save my money for the rockerpanels right now or I walt have a Jeep.

Just remember you need the top hinges "off the 84-96 hatch" not the roof. unless your a 97-01 owner you'll need both roof and hatch hinges.

Yeah I plan to keep it stock too. Some of my friends asked me if I got a new Jeep.
