Default 1989 Cherokee Chop Project

I thought you guys might be interested in my project. i have been working on it since the end of the summer when i got it for 300 bucks. it has given me something to do in between school and work and i really enjoy doing it. i have never done anything like this before and i am collecting new tools and learning as i go. i strongly recommend to anyone who has the chance to try something like this to do it. it has been a blast and great learning experience.

it all started when my friend bought this beat up old jeep cherokee

we stripped it down sold the parts and beat the crap out of it.
he lost interest in it and his parents said it had to go. the thing was rust free and ran great so i figured what the hell ill take it.
here it is the day i bought it after i threw some cheap craigslist meats on it

i decided against beating the snot out of it off road till it died and starting building my dream cherokee.
step one was hack the top off and strip her down

then i found a comanche at the junkyard and got the tailgate.

i started cutting away to make room for the tailgate

welded some free angle iron in there (first time welding)

and it fits!

nothing like a working tailgate on an xj

then i found someone parting out a 97 2 door. i got the doors(manual windows and mirrors) the 2 front fenders and header panel/ grill for 170
they were a little beat up thats why i got it so cheap.

i slapped some of it on a pulled it out of the garage

then my friend helped me with some bodywork

and shaved the corner lights

painted and primered the tailgate

started on the tj flares

here she is the next day after lots of hard work

then put on the front of my buddys old 4 inch rough country tj lift + a 2 inch spacer. i replaced the bushings and painted it red to match my skyjacker shocks
i also installed an adjustable track bar.
for the rear i built a bastard pack out of dodge van main leafs and comanchee leafs.
i think i got about 5.5 inches of lift and it sits level. i think it will sag a little once i get a winch, bumpers and a spare tire on.
here is how it sits now

o and the tj flares are wired in so they act as the old corner lights did

i ordered the iron scorpion winch bumper for it. that will be here soon.
my girl friend is buying me an xrc 8 for x-mas
i am going to finish the rear with the caddy tail lights.
i am going to build a simple rear bumper for it.
front TMR style frame stiffeners.
if i can find someone who can bend tube i will do a simple cage for the rear part.

later on i plan on going with full frame stiffeners and long arms.

o and i have an xj d-44 rear i am going to put disk brakes on and swap in
paint it rescue green
