I picked this up for $800, which I thought was fair with the bumpers and roof rack. 4.0 and 5 speed 237k. and I guess newer Wrangler wheels? I kinda wish they were 15's but oh well....

Anyways it has some issues, exhaust leak in the manifold area, could use a tuneup, and the rear hatch window is falling out but that should be an easy fix.

How I got it



started on removing the manifolds today to replace the gasket. Ton of oil in the airbox but apparently that is common? Will work on clearing out the small line.



Injectors were filthy. soaking in seafoam now.



The manifold bolts were so loose that I took most of them off by hand! crazy.



Got them off. Of course the rear stud was snapped off already. I dont think drilling it out will work so I am leaning towards pulling the head and having a machine shop take it out and machine the head and do a cheapo valve job while its out.



Motor mounts are shot so ill replace that while its all apart. considering the condition of the gasket and the broken vac hoses I found, it runs pretty good. once this is all done it should be solid.

No crazy plans for it just fix/clean up some things and put a budget boost and tires (same size, 255/65), or maybe 255/70's

if anyone has an easier suggestion to getting the rear stud out, that would be great!

Decided against pulling the head to get that stud removed. I am just going to use some high temp copper gasket around that rear port, hopefully it will be ok. changed the valve cover gasket and painted the motor. half of it is probably over grease but oh well lol



Since I had everything out, decided to paint some things. also painted the fan and a couple pulleys black. really not much I can do until I get my motor mounts in.




probably going to yank the stank carpet out while I wait for motor mounts this week.....

Do a port and polish on your intake while its out man, and you got a pretty good deal

I would if I had air tools and carbide bits. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well I know why the airbox is full of oil, the small breather line was completely clogged, I tried to blow thru it but nothing. I think ill just replace it with a soft hose.

im just going to stick a nipple in the grommet on the VC and get a piece of hose. couple bucks.

I also found that the line for the MAP sensor was snapped in half, Im sure that didnt help how it was running lol

Just a lil' tip, paint helps hold in heat. Like on the block it wouldn't be best, but on the exhaust it helps the exhaust fumes flow better out the pipe. Just a few things i've learned from racing...

Waiting on motor mounts so I cant put anything back together, so I gutted out the interior as the carpet needed to go since it was wet, mildewy, and stank.

I hear about all this rust these things have, so I was a little worried. But there was no rust on the underside so I was optimistic. tore it off and was pretty happy.





Only slight surface rust in a couple spots, and one hole the size of a pencil on the pass side, looks like it was from being hit with something there. nothing major at all. Ill just bedline the whole thing, or maybe just paint the front black and bedline the back, depending on how much the stuff costs.

next step is ZJ V8 springs (picking up tomm), spacer, and going to track down some S10 leafs.

Rolled the Rustoleum on today, ill know how it turned out tomm.

Picked up some V8 ZJ springs yesterday at the junkyard. they had me go in the yard with the guy for him to take them out, so that was good that I could verify it was a V8. Then the guy is telling me he had to remove the control arms, track bar, etc etc to get them out, lol. I tell him just disco the shocks and swaybar and he said the spring would fly out haha. I finally talked him into doing it that way, and he got them out in like 10 min. I guess thats why he works at a junkyard.....

picking up some S10 leafs this weekend and a 2" coil spacer should be in tomm...

I got a good bit done today, I went to the JY in the morning since it wasnt raining too bad, in search of some S10 leafs. Well they had a ton of Blazers and S10's. I was about to pull a pair off the cleanest Blazer there, untill I saw another one I didnt look at yet. turns out someone already pulled the axles so the leafs were hanging in by one bolt each, lol. Had them out in 10 min and they only cost me $11 each.



before I left, I pulled some injectors off a crown vic. They rang up $1.50 each but the guy only charged me for 3 for whatever reason.



got most of the engine put back together, the only thing left is some vac lines, add coolant, and install the TB. the TB would be done, but I pulled the butterfly out the clean it, I thought I put the little screws in the bag with all the other TB parts, but no. they are long gone. Anyone know what thread size those things are? I am hoping lowes has something that small. I wish I woulda known, I woulda yanked some off a cherokee at the JY
