Well, I'm not ashamed to admit that I am definitely not a great painter when it comes to spraying, or prepping. I layed it on way to thick on the rock rails and I think it would have taken a month to dry, plus, it was super pitted looking so I wasn't happy with it.
The rear bumper was looking great, until I got a run and I wiped it with a rag, the finish was destroyed. So I decided to wet sand everything, wow, that was a great idea! I got the rock rails super super smooth, and fixed what i messed up on the rear bumper. I got everything re-primed, I'm going to sand the primer tomorrow and put on super thing coats of the paint until the parts look good. I've spent almost 50 bucks on paint at this point, and most of it is now dust on the garage floor
. Oh well though, I've learned what to do, and what not to do next time!

So, I FINALLY got all my free goodies installed (Front and Rear bumpers, and Rock Rails). But, before I did any of that I got myself some bushwackers. I was trimming and trimming away at my fenders so they wouldn't slice into my tires any more and realized the only way it was ever going to look decent was to cover up my trimming with the flares, so, kinda looks like a whole different jeep now!
After refinishing all the metal stuff, I almost broke into tears when I had finished installing the rear bumper and the lift gate wouldn't shut. I should have made sure if fit first, but, this bumper came off of an older XJ and it seems the tail lights used to be wider and the lift gate narrower. I wasn't about to go through the trouble of taking it back off, selling it, and buying a new one that fit, so I got out my grinder and notched my lift gate so it would close, then covered up the damage with some black paint and it looks really slick. Here's the pics!

After removing the peices that hold some of the plastic trim on, I was left with holes where the rivets were, so I patched up the holes and painted the rear rockers black, matches up perfectly with the new bumper.

Fixing up the lift gate to work with the new bumper!

Getting the rock rails lined up and drilling 24 holes on each side, what a pain

The front bumper went on the easiest of any of it, but, I put a ton of work into refinishing it so it would look half way decent. It's still ugly, but it will work until I can afford a nice winch bumper and a winch! Here's the final results!

Thanks for the compliments guys I'm glad to hear some approval! I didn't like the bushwackers when I first put them on but they are definitely growing on me, I think they will look a lot better once I move up to 33" tires, they kinda make my 31'"s look a bit dwarfed.

Thanks man! Yeah that poor blue one took a hell of a beating that day, it wasn't the prettiest thing I had ever seen but it sure had a good life, and one hell of an ending! lol. I hadn't seen your build thread before but I just got done thoroughly checking it out, and I must say it's one sexy rig! Great work on it!

Went wheelin today, whacked bushes, trees, and rocks with my bushwhackers, scratched up my new bumpers and rock rails and had a blast. I also got stuck on a downed tree, I made it over just fine on the way up but got snagged on the way down and spun my tires and I ended being up the creek without a paddle! That's ok though cuz I don't know what the heck I would have done with a paddle, thank goodness I had my hi-lift with me!
Flexin!

cking my jeep off

Seems like this log should have just rolled underneath but there was a huge root ball and probably 1000 pound clod of dirt still on the end of it.

Some diff guards may be in order for when this happens again with a sharp rock!

Easy does it

Awesome trail, but extremely overgrown. The worst scratches I got are actually on my glass from all the branches.

Dude, SWEET Jeep!! That color is awesome, wish my Jeep was that color. Those Bushwackers don't look bad at all, even with the 31's. What trails are you wheeling on, in the pics? I'm in Parker, we will have to get together and do some wheeling sometime.
