Do it, you can drive the beach and see horses. Also can access the south end of False Cape State Park (foot or bike travel).
At the end of Carolla the pavement ends and HWY 12 is on the beach for 12 miles to the VA line and passes the villages of Swan Beach and Carova.

The beach there is mostly hard pack.
Usually the only way to get stuck is to spin the tires.
When a vehicle does get stuck it can often be driven out after digging 'ramps'

You won't need tow points. If you air down then it's easy and the jeep floats on top of the sand (15psi).

Where is this located in relation to Virginia Beach?

All the way around, literally.
It's the Northern Outer Banks, up to the VA state line.

Southern Outer Banks is a National Park and requires a permit for beach driving. I'm here year-round. Come on down.

I kept the trans fluid ran through the "cooler"/regulator thing in the radiator. It's not a temp gauge really, but it will let you know if that trans fluid is getting really hot (abrupt temp spike). Which I like, kind of like a dummy light.
However after this whole thing I will probably add a trans temp gauge before next summer.

I added a aux cooler and temp gauges recently. Used the JP write up for reference.

Otherwise, the hot line is the next best location. Can be placed at the union of hard-line and soft-line.

I didn't test before installing the dual gauges but it sounds like you want to tap the existing soft trans hot line and get your readings there.

Since I have a 98XJ, it appears as tho there's a plug next to the hard line on the tranny itself made to add a temp sensor to it & I do believe u don't have to tap the lines on my trans... (I think?)
I really need to get this going so I figured id get a dual a-pillar pod mount & fill the other one with an air/fuel gauge... (good idea?)

1997 was the last year for the factory port on AW4. But have a look, you never know.
I have a dual pillar pod with Water and Transmission. Wires can run behind the corner of dash to footwell with out removing anything.
