A buddy of mine went looking for butt mtn the other day and ended up finding it. He said it's a fun trail that ends up at an old fire tower.Camping is aloud.

You go up past va tech past newport and keep heading straight into giles county and turn on route 700 then turn onto mountain lake road.

You can also take 311 past potts mtn through paint bank and get there that way. It's about 15 miles from the va/wv border and a hour and a half or so drive out.

It's up near mountain lake hotel,yes. Apparently it's up a fire road,you take a left to go to the tower you take a right to go down the trails.

 

I was up there yesterday exploring ill have to look for that next time im up there. Its an awesome place very scenic
