Just putting this out there... ANything off the main rd at shoe creek is private property, and this includes slick rock. if you deviate right or left from the unimproved road you are trespassing.

This is why I say get a membership to Crozet and wheel there..

Yeah I know Pat. I stay on the main trail at Show Creek. Big levels is the main reason I head over that way. Lots of trail to run. I still need to get a membership at Crozet.

Harlan KY is some great wheelin, like it way more than Crozet. At least you feel like you went somewhere at the end of the day except in a small circle haha! But the Packards are doing us all a great service by giving us a outlet to play with our toys at so hats off to them!

Mt City TN is damn fun but may be closing/closed for good. The land changed hands. You haven't lived until you run "Armor All" or the water fall on "Welder"

Public land is what it is and we have to respect the rules. I have just as much fun cruising an easy trail as I do running rock, I just like to enjoy my Heep and use it for what it was intended to do.

There are many places on Potts that are off limits and our club has marked the trail so I ask that everyone please abide by the rules.

Potts is in danger of closing, it comes up every few months locally. There is a lot of illegal wheelin that goes on up there and vandalism (like near the top entrance where the pond is). If you see someone doing something illegal please report them and better yet take pictures and make sure you get the tag in the pic!

Remember no alcohol while trail riding, thats a DUI at Potts. They will let you slide if you are camping and not in operation of your rig even though alcohol is prohibited up there, just dont get rip-roaring drunk and you will be fine.

Your rig must be street legal, licensed/registered/insured as well.

Potts is very remote so pack in all of the tools and spare parts/fluids with you. I carry some MRE's and plenty to drink as well. You never know when a 5 hour trail ride up there will turn into a 14 hour winch fest or wrench fest.

There is a camp ground with in miles of the lower entrance, look up; The Pines Campground

Sorry to ramble but Potts is my favorite place to wheel and I want to keep it that way!

I was on a ride with the Va Krawlers and heard one of the guys saying that he got a ticket from a game wardedn for just going off the mountain road onto a beaten path. Warden told him that no matter if there isn't a "No Teasspassing" sign, it is still trespassing once you leave the main road. Well, a mountain road is what I am calling a main road. That was the first time I heard that. I didn't hear where he was at but, if this is in fact true all over, be aware. If this is the case then I have honestly trespassed all my life. I repect the signs and always have but, I broke this law.

Yeah Chris and Heather are great people. LIke you siad.. depending on what group you run with you can run the whole place in a few hrs.. if no one breaks... or does the stupid lines.

I really want to run harlan.. it is just 11 hrs one way.. a lil hard to swing that kinda cabbage.

Never ran Potts Mountain... and I wont be able to until jan1.. rig qualifies for antiques that day

I have alwAYS operated on the fact that if I dont have permision.. I dont go there. Keep in mind every piece of land in the United States is owned by someone.

Hi XJCrAzY!
I've talked to and or wheeled with many of the Posters on this thread. I would like to be included in any planned runs to the GWNF or elsewhere.!

As for wheelin' in the GW... Any trail not on this map is off limits and running them can get all ORV's banned. So if we keep the GW as it is, fun mostly easy trails, and go to Crozet, Rousch Creek, etc... to goe our rocks off it'll all be GOOD!

Let's Go Wheelin'!

Will do! I hope to get my rig back to 4wd before the trail closes but if I don't we will go up there the first Saturday that it is re-opened on.

I need to wheel, my rig has been down since August with a busted D-30 ring gear.

My rig is almost ready! I have the front axle back together and I'm building my roof sliders now.

After the roof sliders are done its game on, I just have to work around my work/youth lacrosse coach game/practice schedule.

My trail ride list this year includes;

Potts at least twice, with whoever will show up!
URE once with either the NAXJA guys or the CommanderClub guys
Harlan once(NAXJA SEC Cherokee Crawl in July)
Shoe Creek/Big Levels once, hopefully with some of you all that are familier with the trail system.
Flag Pole with my CommanderClub buddies in May

I will post up any and all Potts runs as a separate thread and try to PM those that requested it.

We have two local clubs so there are several runs up there a season.

Glad to here that your rig is coming along. I just put a cat back new exhaust system from Performance Curve in Roanoke, sounds great. Keep me on your list for Potts.

Will do! Never heard of Performance Curve? Are they a ebay store? if so I know the guys that own/run the exhaust supplies side of that business. They supply tubing/mufflers/cats to all of the local exhaust shops. I'm running their Flowmaster 40 "knock-offs" on all of my XJ's

That happens when the trails are not marked properly. Things look tempting so you want to try them, its human nature.

We had "red arrow" signs made at our clubs expense and went up to Potts and marked the trail so there would be no confusion. The Mud holes that call your name, well all but the one or two that are on the trail are off limits yet every time we go up there you can tell someone had just gone through them! Its frustrating to those of us that work so hard to keep that trail open.

We have lost 6 trails/fire roads in the area over the last 4 years due to "illegal wheeling". Its mostly kids that just do not know better. I try to educate the youngsters when i can as to what is legal and what isn't.
