Some might be closed due to various reasons. Who knows nothing stays the same long around here haha.
I keep driving by all these 4wd accesses wanting to just drive right out, but afraid of getting stuck with no way of getting un stuck, i have no recovery points, no chains/rope and I have not had a cell phone in a long time lol

dam son, sounds like ur strugglin a little bit hahaha. tow straps pretty cheap, like 20 bucks at walmart. a hitch was the best thing i ever did as far as makin it easy to get pulled out, a sound investment. i always like to go wheelin with a buddy or two. i got stuck by my lonesome in the middle of the night with some chicks and a cooler of beer and nobody to pull me out, i ALWAYS go with somebody now, not gonna make that mistake twice haha

Yeah, first time on the sand will be a short trip for me....from 3rd st to 5th st lol. I have lots of things in the works and on the verge of doing a lot. I am collecting tools/parts all the time. I saw a little shovel at home depot that would be great to toss in the back in case I need to dig out.I have beenTinkering with little things as I go though. Loving the Jeep so far!

On the topic of carrying lots of extra stuff around. I recently bought a pair of 3 ton jack stands from home depot also. 24$ for a pair "Husky" brand.... pretty good deal. The little shovel is like 10$

Night driving is allowed by permit, which is free. you can pick one up at any tackle shop and most should aslo be able to tell you exactly which beach ramps are open. I'm pretty sure everything from KDH to Ocracoke is open, and corova too..
There are some easy but cool trails close by on the mainland just past Manns Harbor near the bombing range. I saw three bears the last time I was back there! go at dusk though thats when they are out cruising

ah, thanks for the info. I look forward to having my Jeep beach/trail ready...eventually.
as far as the trails....you talking about out towards East Lake? I drove out there recently for a friends wedding and saw all these little dirt trails leading off 64 along the way and was curious if they were private property or something. I don't like just driving down random paths without knowing whats up.

Finally started looking around for something written up about the beach driving rules out here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
I found a site that broke everything down by town and also has info about pets on the beach, fires and grilling etc etc.
The general rule that I have seen is October 1st - April 30th you can drive on the beaches where permitted at all. and 25 mph is the speed limit.
Here is the link

So... my friends in Hatteras land have informed me that the point is now closed. Is this true? If so I'm going to start hunting piping plovers. I hate the damn Audoboun society... anyway hows the surf fishing out that way now?

I cant wait to get back down there. I will be down there last week in Aug into Sept. for vacation after this lovely year long deployment in the sandbox. I'm hoping there will not be any closures around this time frame. Gota get the jeep onthe beach again.
