Well, I ended up not going. The weather there is like ours but expected to get much worse than ours. I can't see using the gas to tow down there to sit in the motel room and watch it rain. Bummed out right now.

I did try to get there on Thursday but lost all trailer brakes, in the rain, on a down hill slope, at a quick yellow, in the town of Abingdon VA. The 6500# pushed me through the light between two cars. The Commanders ABS stopped me straight thankfully!
The guys that were traveling with me helped me work on it for a couple of hours without much luck. I was holding up their trip so I sent them on their way. I ended up getting the front axle to work by cutting out the rear axle all together, apparently there was a bad brake magnet in the pass side of the rear axle.
I ended up driving back to Roanoke on Thursday night/Friday early am in some torrential rain. At one time I was running 40mph with the hazards on and still unable to see the road ahead of me with HIDS on the XK lighting the way.
Kuddos to BOSCH for making some damn good wiper blades
All in all, it worked out for the best.
On a side note, the Hemi Commander is a very good tow vehicle that is comfy as well. I have towed with all sorts of trucks and Jeeps but this XK is very good at handling a load. When the road was dry I could easily cruise at 70-75mph even here in the mountains on I-81. All the while getting 13mpg! When the road was wet I never felt squeamish, and could safely run 55-60mph if I could see the road.
"Back up cam" makes it easy to hook up, the "trailer sway control" keeps it all in line although my trailer tows nice with the equalizing/stabilizing hitch and both axles with brakes. The Prodigy brake controller works perfect.
If nothing else came out of it, at least I know the XK can tow a 4500# "expedition rig" easily in the mountains.
