We all have a duty to prep. If you are not prepared you become part of the problem. By the fact that you are on this site, you are a person who enjoys adventure and being outdoors. You have a major headstart on a lot of people.

The best advice I can give is to brainstorm what you will need and research some prep sites on line. They will provide a lot of good suggestions. Be as prepared as you can be. Do not just think "oh the storm is going to be historically bad, prepping will not help anyway". That is not the approach you want to take.

Generally speaking, think of:
-warm dry shelter
-Food and water
-Cash on hand- no power means no ATMs, and availability of getting to your money could be impacted.
- Personal protection- when the people in urban areas are evacuated, they are going somewhere and it could be toward you. Hungry people will take actions they normally wouldn't to get food. Meaning, they will try and take yours by force. DO not be a soft target. Ensure you have working weapons and ample ammunition. This may sound excessive to some, but you have a right to protect yourself, your family and personal property. Under extreme conditions, like this id forcasted be, it could be a matter of life and death.

The above are very general suggestions, but research by you will allow you to develop a specific list of items needed and lay out a plan, hunker down or bug out.

So far I've just bought food and gas.
Flash lights and all the other stuff I already have.
Main things I've got ready to pull out is camping equipment for cooking food and such with no power. And my chainsaw is ready to go if I need to go out I'll bring that and use the big SUV since the air intake is high.
My little commute car will stay home. But I don't plan on going out.
I'm expecting flooding in the lower part of town like when Irene hit. My house is on upper level but I did dig a trench to guide water away from the garage since it does take in water from the yard.

Tonight's been crazy, I just took a look out the window after gaining power back for the second time and could see transformers exploding into bright blue light off in the distance lol. I'm amazed we still have power and very thankful. Tomorrow afternoon if the winds are gone I may go out with my little brother and do some recon if anyone has pics of carnage post them up!

Just got power back last night, that marked about a week without it. We managed to get a generator 3 days ago and rigged it to our furnace so we could stay warm lol. I am very thankful the power went back on last night.

Last Monday night when the wind started getting real bad you could look out of the window and see transformers exploding in the distance, it was crazy. In my neighborhood there were huge trees down, poles snapped, wires hanging in the road, and trees on top of houses and cars. It was nuts and I am happy everyone is okay. Just in the process of cleaning up. My school has been closed for a week and a half and is just starting again tomorrow.

The Jeep was awesome. I took my brother out with me every day to see what was getting fixed.

BTW I was at Harbor Freight yesterday. I get these magazines of coupons from them in the mail for their monthly sales. Added pry bars, a 1/2" drive breaker bar, a set 1/2" drive deep sockets, and a bunch of wire cutters/pliers all for a little under $45. Added them to the big black box in the back of the Jeep.

 

whole tree I need the windshield and the Chrome trim that goes around it... i cant find them anywhere...
