My son decided to leave S FL and move up to Bradford PA with his girlfriend and her parents. They've been going to school to get their GED's finally and he said he'd like an XJ like mine once he graduates and goes to Trade School. I was considering on giving him my XJ, but keeping it registered to me, here in FL. My question to our PA members is, what is allowed and not allowed law wise, as y'all have the better insight than your state website does. IE: we have zero emissions or inspections here in FL, what does your state require IF I keep it registered here?

It's a 1996 XJ Sport 2 door sitting on 7.5" of lift and 285/75r16's (metric 33's), and cutout fender flares for reference. (The same one in my profile pic).

If the car is still registered to you in FL, you do not have to abide by PA rules.

FYI, in PA, there is a state safety inspection. Counties have jurisdiction on emissions. Bradford PA is Mckean County and they don't have an emissions check.

Worst case is, I just buy him a cheap 2dr down here and build for him. As I already have 2 Jeeps, an Eclipse GT, an Evo and a Toyota Tacoma.

 

That area is beautiful. The only drawback is that with a gas hog of a vehicle, it gets expensive running around. Even though Bradford is a good size town, there's always something you need or want from "the next town over", which is a gallon or two to get to.

Just note, PA law says that within 60 days of establishing residency, you need to get a PA driver license. Your Jeep will definitely get noticed as a new vehicle in the area. So it will be on the LEO radar. Since he will be "borrowing" your 4x4 Jeep (which is needed up there), while he is in school, LEO should give him a pass. Most LEO in rural PA, including PSP, are decent folks.

 

Agree with pa robert, I grew up in nowhere around Kane, all the Law Enforcement Officers may stop him eventually (locals for sure cause there "checking out his Jeep") but if he's going to school he'll be fine. Unless of course he's rooting around in some mud, hill climb, or any other Jeep fun spot (which there is an abundance of within a 100 mi radius of Bradford) and somebody calls. On the other hand there are many roads that are open in the Allegheny National Forest that he can drive and have an enjoyable time.
