Not my first post, been kinda floating around a few days now. I'm in kinda time crunched at the moment. Now..on to the 'way too long' intro

I picked up a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport a little over two weeks ago. I had been search for a new vehicle (AWD, some ground clearance, under $5000 being the basic search criteria). I found this Jeep nearby (was looking as far west as Nebraska since they sometimes have hail damaged vehicles on the cheap). Paid $2700 with know issues with the suspension, and a misfire, but was told it wasn't the motor, the motor was good. BS. Was also told it was driven from Florida to Maryland (also bull**** I found out later). Anyway, I am working through the issues when I find out the motor is shot. I'm looking for a motor in this thread.

The Jeep for me was less about rock crawling and slow use and more for faster paced off-road use. We're not talking race speeds, but if I can reliably do 40mph on a bob's road in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. I'm good. It is why a 3" lift is MAX. for me. I also wanted the additional ground clearance for times like in hurricanes with the storm surge and in deep snow. I also want to be able to get to some decent off - road locations to film in more remote areas, but thinking for fire trails than that rock crawling stuff. The Jeep is also a platform for my filming, so everything from live broadcasting (streaming video) while chasing, to being able to head out for three, four or more days and 'camping out' to film (or survive...like in hurricanes) is key. Nothing overly complicated...just more than the average car/crossover can do. I had a Subaru Legacy GT before this...and it did well (AWD is best in the business for my needs) but the ground clearance became a factor during Hurricane Irene.

As for me. Well the username says a little bit. I am an aspiring filmmaker (left the architecture profession) using my severe weather hobby as a conduit to record, write and produce films. I started storm chasing soon after high school in the late 90s and when some buddies and I produced a hurricane documentary, it became quite successful and even enter and won a film festival award in Miami. That is where the bug bit.

Later life took a turn and I was diagnoised with Kidney Failure which pretty much sidelined me for a few years, and I'm still struggling to get back at things. I did have a transplant, so my health has nearly recovered, but the economic side hasn't....yet.
