Default Mechanic Recommendations in/around NYC

Hi all, My longtime mechanic is in southern New Jersey, but the XJ and I live in Brooklyn. My front sway bar end link just busted and I don't have the means to replace them myself this week.

Anybody have a reputable shop they can recommend? Being a Jeep oriented / knowledgable shop would be even better.

Thanks,

Kyle

Default NYC mechanic recommendations...

I second that request.
Anyone know of any? Any help would be great.

Found one!

And he's/they're great.

ABC Collision on 4th Ave in Brooklyn has a full service mechanic in the back run by Mike, the manager and head mechanic. .

I've never had a shop experience like this before.

I brought the XJ in with a broken sway bar end link and a list of things that needed to be done in time (new purchase). He said he'd take a look at the sway bar links as well as give the rest of the truck the once over. THEN... he said, I'll email you photos of everything I find and we can discuss options on what should be fixed.

He turned up leaky rear wheel cylinders and a brake line that was pretty much ready to burst/disintegrate that my long-time mechanic completely missed.

Received the photos, decided to hold off on the sway bar and take care of the brakes.

He's super honest, open, willing to talk to you on a level that doesn't insult you (aka I could have fixed this myself, but I live in Brooklyn without a space to work). His rates are $90/hour which are standard, the markup on parts is steep, but expected, and he won't install aftermarket parts you bring in, but he will source whatever you want.

So, he's my guy.

There's also an Argentinian mechanic in the same hood who has been there for years and years that I haven't used, but whom I spoke to and he IS cool with installing parts you bring in. I'll be giving him a go soon:

Nice!

I'm in Brooklyn, too, so thanks for the info. I have a bunch of parts (OME lift/suspension kit) already so it looks like I'm going the argentine route but I'll keep ABC in mind for any other stuff. My AC is acting up so maybe I'll give them a try for that. Maybe I'll even bring the lift by and see if it's good enough for them to install.

Again, many thanks!

Oh man...buckle up for the AC ride. My compressor went last week, jamming up the pulley and everything. So the whole system had to be replaced to the tune of $650.

Rock Auto has kits for around $300ish, but something like that may require the mechanic to use their own kits to ensure they get what they need and a warranty IS a nice thing.

Anyway, good luck!

oh man, don't tell me that. i just went down the cracked head gasket, warped block, bad radiator road. unpleasant to say the least.

maybe i'll just sweat out the rest of the summer and sort out the AC next spring.

thanks for the info, though.
