Default Maryland - Looking for a 99-2001 cherokee

Hey guys,

Wife decided she didn't want a new car and is keeping the cherokee (Which I was taking over as my DD,weekend warrior). So now I'm on the search for a 99-2001 cherokee XJ for sale.

Anyone have any leads on one in the Baltimore surrounding areas? No ABS.

Thanks in advance.

Shawn

Well looked at 5 so far and wow not sure how people are selling these. 3 wouldn't start & were pretty beat up, 1 turned out to be 2 wheel drive. Saw a silver one like the one we already own, body and interior looked mint. I crawled under it and wow i've never seen so much rust, even the drive shafts had flakes of rust coming off of them.

Have a lead on another one today, crossing my fingers. 99, pics look to be in great condition, 170,000 miles.

Well cherokees are funny. I am trying to sell mine. I've got the price reduced because of some issues, but probably within a fix and flip price range. If your in Maryland, clean examples are not cheap. While a select few have bought cheap, most pay over book for a perfectly clean model. Because they are getting long in the tooth, issues are just part of owning one. They truly are not well built as a modern car. We are talking AMC engineering mostly with Chrysler patchwork. Simplicity is the key to the success as a modifiable off-roader.

If you want cheap, go deep into PA or better yet, go south...away from the snow belt. Keep in mind, you will need it to pass i spection in Maryand, which is super strict.

Sage advice.Clean stock XJ's are becoming rarer and rarer. The highly modified stuff out there is cool to think about if you also consider who done it & how well. You will never know till you already own it in most cases. It is tempting to buy all those pretty mods but I question why does someone do that kind of work and put that kind of $$$ into a XJ and sell it for less than part out value in many cases?
Ya gotta think "Am I a lucky dude?"
OR "If it souds too good to be true it probably is"

As long as one is in good shape, finding one shouldn't be hard. I'd look around at dealerships and put requests in for them to find you one, check local auctions (Bel Air and Pennsylvania ones), and look on the Baltimore, MD area Craigslist. Also check eBay.

here's a nice one I was going to look at for my GF but it's not quite working out right now...since she would have to sell her car first?
