So most of the research is telling me that it is most likey a stuck/collapsed lifter or a stuck valve.

I am thinking tomorrow getting some MMO and running it for a day, then an oil change to Mobile 1 High Mileage 10w-30 to see if it helps.

If I have to fix a lifter/valve, what is involved. I am a suspension guy...internals of the engine, not so much. I have yet to rebuild a 4.0.

Not too bad, all that's pretty much residing under the valve cover.

Hey Jimmy,
I'll be out there Thursday PM, I'll listen to it then....
That's sounds like a "lower end" knock....
If it was a lifter/valve it would be more of a loud tapping noise....

Tedious, but easy enough with time consumption. Getting the top seal thru the channel or whatever can be a PITA sometimes.

I am not ordering anything yet...because I do not yet KNOW for sure what the issue is...but what is a good source for upper/lower/master rebuild kits that are affordable/good?

Mike...I will wait for your fine ear on Thursday....I am just researching/prepping because mechanics DON'T touch my rig, just me, and people with my express permission...lol.

I actually would LIKE to do it...kinda...I have done so much to this rig mechanically, that with a reman engine, it's good to go for quite a while. I just want to know for sure what part to "reman"....

So...sources?

When you're ready to do it I have a RMS you can have for what I paid for it $16. There's a write up in one of the sections here I'll see if I can dig it up

I found a lot of really resonable parts at Summit, they actually have a HUGE selection of jeep engine parts

And I have a set of main and rod bearings, I haven't RMA'd them yet

really? i think ill take it... my jeep eats oil like whoa and its driving me crazy... i know they have problems with the rms's... im going to do my pan gasket and rms and see if that helps the leaking problem i have
