I'd do a kingpin D60 and a shaved 14 bolt for the win. The swap into a YJ would be easy. And tire size choice would be no issue.
I may have a kingpin d60 laying around for sale. Will check.

I wouldn't run a 14b unless it was shaved. They're stupid big. I'd go overboard and turn down my gears and milk out my housing and make it take forever.

Tim, look up Ross's build on NAXJA in advanced fab. He shaved a 14b and cut down his front 60.

Don't feel like quoting entire speel, so will just ask, who mentioned anything of a rear d60?

Have seen more Sterlings bust than 14bolts in rock crawling and in mud.

And I too have seen more kingpin 60s break than BJ 60s, but at same time, have seen way more kingpin 60s overall.

What kind of axles you have in your XJ?

I've been reading up on shaving them. With a cab and chassis axle (63"), it'll be only slightly wider than stock. Backspaced wheels would fix that. I'd have to see it in person to decide if I'd want to shave it right off the bat our ruin it and see if I have a problem. I know the stock diff covers suck, so that makes me lean toward a shave instead of possibly buying a diff cover twice.

That leaves a question of finding a donor front that's close to 63" or can be shortened to match, with matching bolt pattern. Haven't started that search yet

I'm swapping 06 F250 axles in right now. Around here KP's go from 900-1300 by themselves. I gave less than that for both mine. The only advantage I could give a KP over the 05+ SD's is the ease of bolt on hi steer. There are a few companies that will machine your knuckles for that now though. Or, if you're in redneck like me you make your own. I think the new SD axles are a better bang for your buck unless you find an incredible deal on the KP/14b. Then you still have to swap discs on, shave it, weld the tubes/ truss, and then it'd be ready to run.

Well its official. My car is for sale now. I want it gone by end of next week. Not quite sure what the money from it will go to, but i'm not going to take the time to fix it and get it on the road, so it's going to go.

With all this axle talk, I'm looking for a 29 spline 8.25 and a hp d30. The d30 can be nearly stripped as I have a ton of new parts to bolt on. I have everything from the axle shafts outward for it.

I have a locked 8.25, 3:55, that comes with disc brakes and high clearance shock mounts.

i'll have an HP30 (the one i just got as a temporary axle) once i swap my original front end back in after the regear work. Not sure of your time frame for needing it...

You met him at NacFest a few years ago, although his jeep has changed a bit since then
