Slim, you think you need 6.5" to flex, but the goal is to maintain traction so you can put down power. It doesn't matter if you have up- or down-travel as long as your wheels are on the ground.
The purpose of lifting is to fit the tire you want to run, but from a technical standpoint, you shouldn't lift until you have no fender left to cut. Lift raises your center of gravity and makes you less stable.
The difference is if you lift high for uptravel, you're always off camber.

lifted, a little, alot, none at all,i'm rite, he's rite, we all have different agendas, but the main focus is XJ's, i'd love to see Slim climb a step ladder and get into his monster XJ and conquer Ben's/Jon, nasty old hole and more, and i will join in and participate in whut i feel comfortable with and dont give a fawk whut anybody else thinks, or sez,

This coming from Shirley, on a 3" lift, who when he goes wheeling, he doesn't. Tim, who has yet to lift, and Erin who, well who gives a shyte.
I'm doing 4.5" on 35's, hope I don't get stuck in a pot hole and flip over.
Damien is running 10" lift on 35's, he is plenty capable. Don't hear anyone bashing his rig.
Nate and Slim isn't new to Jeeps. I think they are perfectly capable in choosing what they want, and will probably be done lifting before the rest of us.
That being said, your opinion attempting to negate someone else opinion is just that, an opinion. Just cause you said it, doesn't validate it.
Peace, with any luck, this time next week, I'll be fully moved and living in PA
